The Golden State Warriors suffered a huge blow tonight after Brandon Rush left tonight’s game in the first quarter against the Memphis Grizzlies after suffering a left knee injury. While there’s been no official word on the severity it is likely that it will end his season.
It happened when Rush was out in transition and had an open dunk and that window was only for a moment as Zach Randolph fouled him to make him earn the two points at the free throw line. Unfortunately since he was already in the air when he was not able to brace himself for landing.
As a result of the pain he got helped off the floor and the foul itself was not dirty or malicious. Randolph when removed for his rest went to the Warriors locker room to check on Rush and his injury. After the visit he seemed rattled after return to the Grizzlies bench.
What the injury means for the Warriors is that Harrison Barnes will get more playing time along with Klay Thompson and Richard Jefferson. In the second quarter Mark Jackson chose to play small with a lineup of Jarrett Jack at point guard, Stephen Curry took over at shooting guard, Thompson at small forward, David Lee power forward and Festus Ezeli center.
Also, Ezeli suffered a minor injury in the first quarter after taking a finger to the eye and he was able to return later.
If Rush is out for an extended period it will mean the Warriors may look to make a move to add depth at small forward. A possibility would be to re-acquire Dominic McGuire.
