The Stanford Cardinal landed two commitments last week and only have two targets left in the class of 2013 as a result.
De La Salle (Concord) senior tight end Austin Hooper and Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) center Thomas Oser both committed this week after spending a weekend in Stanford. Hooper is a four-star recruit according to Scout, and will step into a tight end void on the Cardinal offense.
For Hooper, it came down to either Stanford or Cal, and Stanford came out of the other side with a fine young football player. Apparently, he was waiting on an admissions decision, because once Stanford accepted him last Friday, then it was a done deal. Hooper’s uncle, Greg, played at Stanford in the 80′s, although he played full back and not tight end.
Oser was Second Team All-Mission League his senior year, and has ideal size for his position. Standing 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, Oser will be able to handle both run and pass blocking for the Cardinal.
“Stanford was just a perfect fit,” Oser said Sunday night. “It’s a combination of a great program, great academics and great people. It’s an amazing place that really felt like home.”
Stanford now has 12 total commitment to their 2013 class and they are only waiting on two more to sign. Tight end Durham Smythe (Belton, Texas), who recently de-committed from Texas, and wide receiver Devon Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) both have yet to fully commit to the Cardinal. The post Andrew Luck era has gone well so far, and they hope to keep it going next year with a solid recruiting class.
