Surging Anaheim Ducks only 5 points out!
10 days ago the Ducks started on what looked to be a scary, and possibly season defining 8 game road trip. With only 2 games left in that trip the Ducks are 4-0-2 capturing 10 out of a total 12 possible points. In doing so the Ducks are now only 5 points behind 8th place Calgary. Every game is huge the rest of the way out including the last 2 games of the trip tomorrow against Tampa Bay, and Thursday against Carolina. If the Ducks can stay within 5 points after those 2 games, it would set them up nicely when they finally return to play a home game on Sunday against Chicago, before playing away again against Colorado the next day. Both of those games having even bigger implications as they are against western conference rivals. Monday is also a significant day because it is trade deadline day. It is possible that the team playing at home on the Sunday the 26th is a different one than the team playing at home on the 29th against Buffalo, but it is yet to be seen if Bob Murray will be adding anybody to make a big playoff push or not. It is however safe to say the Ducks are no longer sellers and likely will not be trading any of the bigger pieces on the team.
2 months ago there were rumors that the Ducks could possibly end up asking Teemu Selanne if he would like to wave his no-trade clause in order to get a chance for another cup run, but the way the Ducks are now playing, Selanne will not have to make that decision. Selanne has been one of the hotter Ducks players of late (along with Corey Perry, and Jonas Hiller) scoring the game winning goal in 2 of the Ducks last 3 games. If anything, there is a possibility the Ducks may even look to upgrade the second line by bringing in a LW to play alongside Saku Koivu, and Selanne. With the Ducks Goal-tending (okay well Hiller) playing well, and the Defense playing much better if the Ducks were to try to add a player that would be the spot were maybe the team can improve the most.
