On Wednesday afternoon, the University of Arizona issued a press release regarding freshman point guard Josiah Turner.

At 6-foot-3, Turner entered his freshman season at Arizona with plenty of hype, however a sub par season, both for Turner as an individual and the Wildcats as a collective group, instantly moves the focus towards to the 2012-13 season.

Turner, will not be a part of this group’s transition.

The Sacramento-native has decided to transfer after just one season in Tuscon.

Turner started 17 games as a freshman under head coach Sean Miller and while the Wildcats finished the year outside of the NCAA Tournament, a plethora of incoming talent gives Arizona a great shot at improving next season.

Turner averaged 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in 2011-12.

The freshman had an up-and-down year, succumbing to a number of suspensions including a four-game stretch to conclude the season. Turner’s final game as a Wildcat was on Mar. 3 in a loss to Arizona State. Turner had three points in the defeat.

“I learned a lot in my year at Arizona and would like to thank my coaches, teammates and the fans for all of their support,” said Turner.

At this time, there is no word on where Turner will look to continue his collegiate career and no timetable has been set for any visits or decision.

Arizona will likely turn to Nick Johnson and Jordin Mayes in the back court next season. The Wildcats are welcoming in one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, highlighted by four members of the ESPN Top-100.
