After a disappointing freshman season at Arizona, Josiah Turner has found a new home.

An up-and-down season, that included a pair of suspensions for team violations, ended in late April when Turner announced that he would transfer.

SMU and newly-appointed head coach Larry Brown are now taking the talented point guard in, giving Turner a second chance in the hopes that his potential can equal out his undeniable level of talent.

Brown, at the age of 71, has assembled quite the coaching staff at SMU, in an effort to maximize the Mustangs’ potential in the coming years. In fact, the school is set to move to the Big East in 2013.

In addition to assembling a powerful staff, Brown has also made headlines for instantly informing a number of players that they would not be part of the team moving forward, including starting point guard Jeremiah Samarrippas.

Turner, who will likely be the team’s starting point guard once eligible (must sit out the 2012-13 season per NCAA rules), will have three years of eligibility once he can play.

However, Turner’s off-the-court issues continue to arise and in fact, the 6-foot-3 guard was arrested just last week on “extreme DUI suspicion.”

Time will tell if Turner can pan out under Brown, but in terms of potential, the move may pay dividends for the Mustangs down the line.

During his only season at Arizona, Turner averaged 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.
