ESPN is reporting that UCLA freshman Kyle Anderson is one of two newcomers that have yet to been cleared by the NCAA.

For those following the ongoing updates involving the eligibility of UCLA’s incoming stars, Shabazz Muhammad is the second freshman who has yet to receive clearance.

The university released a statement on Monday afternoon saying that two players are going through NCAA certification, but have yet to be cleared to play.

Muhammad, who is being investigated by the NCAA due to an alleged connection with two financial advisers during his time at the high school, was barred from traveling with the team during their overseas trip to China.

Anderson, on the other hand, did play for the Bruins and as if his talent level was not already known, those skills were on display during the team’s 3-0 run abroad.

Both Muhammad and Anderson were considered top-10 recruits by many of the national media outlets and the potential loss of each could be devastating. With the month of September is just beginning, the college basketball season is just over two months away from its start.

ESPN‘s Peter Yoon, a UCLA beat writer for the network, tweeted on Monday evening that Anderson was the second freshman in question and that fellow freshman Tony Parker has already been cleared by the NCAA.

Reports have been emerging over the past 24 hours that both Anderson and Parker were being investigated by the NCAA, but it now appears as if there has been some clearance within the ongoing situation.

Muhammad and Anderson are the Bruins’ top two freshmen and two key components to UCLA’s ability to rebound from a few down years. After a tumultuous campaign in 2011-12, the Bruins were looking ahead to a brighter future this season, but the impact and eligibility of both Muhammad and Anderson plays a huge role in those expectations.

UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero called the recent reports “misleading and inaccurate,” but did specify that the two players have yet to receive clearance.
