Last year Larry Fitzgerald led the Cardinals in receptions with 90. Second place was rewarded to Steve Breaston who had 47 while the third best receiver was Andre Roberts and he only had 24 receptions.

Now in defense of the receivers , their wasn’t a strong starting quarterback as the Cardinals played “musical chairs” with Max Hall, John Skelton, and Derek Anderson. No excuses this year.

After the rumored trade of Kevin Kolb finally went down for Arizona the “quarterback issue” was no longer an issue.  When Steve Breaston bolted Arizona to re-join forces with Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley (offensive coordinator with Arizona in ’08-’09 Super Bowl run) a new issue came to life: who will be the #2 receiver along side “Larry Fitz”.

Question answered? Maybe.

Early Doucet has been all but “late” on his potential delivery and 2nd year player Stephen Williams did not prove much with only 9 catches for 101 yards during his rookie season.

Early reports out of training camp have been that rookie Demarco Sampson has grabbed the coach’s attention but then again, so has Andre Roberts.

It may be to early to predict but at 5’11” and 195-pounds Roberts has the perfect fitting for a #2 wide receiver. Sampson has been known to battle injuries, as has Doucet. Stephen Williams has all but perform so far but Roberts has actually contributed.

The 2nd-year pro from The Citadel will certainly have his chance to perform with no excuses as he has Kevin Kolb at quarterback. His 40-yard dash clocked in at a 4.46 during his NFL Combine run which shows he can certainly make plays with his feet.

It won’t be long until many people around the league here the name Andre Roberts. It seemed as if the Cardinals were in the market for some free agent wide receivers until they decided to stick with what they have.

They must have seen promise. As far as promises go: if Larry Fitz is double or triple covered, look out for Andre Roberts on a slant to make the catch, he might just spread his wings and fly to the end-zone like a true Arizona Cardinal.
