The Arizona Cardinals have one of the most interesting quarterback debates in the NFL as Kevin Kolb and John Skelton appeared to be neck-and-neck at the beginning of training camp. At this point, Skelton appears to have a slight edge over Kolb with the way preseason has gone for both quarterbacks so far. With Thursday night’s preseason game against the Tennessee Titans coming up, it’s difficult not to wonder if the former Fordham star could soon be named the starter for the regular season.

It’s no secret that Skelton has been outperforming Kolb so far this preseason and if this continues over the final two weeks, there’s every reason to believe he’ll earn the starting job for the 2012 regular season. The third preseason game is usually a strong indicator for which players have the edge when it comes to the starting job for the regular season and it seems like Skelton could officially earn the gig with a solid performance against the Titans.

All of the factors seem to be working in Skelton’s favor at this point in the preseason and the fact that he led Arizona to a 5-2 record in 2011 as a starter makes his case even stronger. Of course, if Skelton does end up winning the starting job for Week 1, the Cardinals will be scratching their heads even more, considering they rewarded him with a $63 million extension after acquiring him from the Philadelphia Eagles prior to last season.

As crazy as it sounds, who would have thought Arizona would be facing this dilemma at this point last year?
