In just one instance, the Diamondbacks season was over. With things tied in the 10th inning with one out and a runner at second, Nyjer Morgan drove in Carlos Gomez on a single into center to give the Brewers a 3-2 victory to advance them to their first NLCS apperance since 1982.

Any loss that ends your season is painful, but this was really stung, especially with the Cardinals shocking the Phillies and ending their season in Philadelphia. If Arizona had gotten through the Brewers, they probably would have been the slight favorites over the Cards to get to the World Series.

Arizona had plenty of chances throughout the afternoon. The Snakes had runners on first and third with two outs in the sixth, but Ryan Roberts grounded out. Paul Goldschmidt struck out with runners at the corners with only one out in the eighth and then a batter later, Roberts left the bases juiced.

After Willie Bloomquist tied up the game with a safety squeeze in the ninth, the Diamondbacks failed to gain the lead despite having runners on first and second and nobody out. In the end, too many missed chances would bite them in the butt and cost them a chance to advance to the NLCS.

Despite several missed opportunities and a disappointing end to the season, this Diamondbacks team has nothing to be ashamed of. No experts and even several fans of club never expected them to win the NL West, much less take a talented Brewers team to the brink in this series.

Take away the magical 2001 season, this was the most enjoyable D’Backs team to watch in my view. There were the numerous amount of comebacks and big seasons from guys who you never thought could have put up the numbers that they did. Not to mention, a lot of these guys are just fun personalities and truly like playing with one another.

This year’s success should only be a sign of things to come as well. This is a team that has a majority of its players in its mid-20′s or just entering their prime with plenty of talent down in the minors. Here is for even more success come playoff time in the years to come!
