Ravens QB Joe Flacco Unhappy About Waiting Until 2012 Offseason For Extension

Last week, it seemed like the Baltimore Ravens were planning on doing whatever it takes to make sure quarterback Joe Flacco received a contract extension as soon as possible. Now, it appears the former Delaware standout will have to wait until the 2012 offseason–which he’s not too happy about.

According to Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun, Flacco is frustrated that the Ravens are waiting until next offseason to work on an extension for their beloved quarterback. Flacco has two years remaining on his rookie contract and believes he’s proven himself enough over the first three seasons–helping Baltimore earn a Wild Card spot each year.

From Hensley’s article:

“I think I’ve established myself,” Flacco said at Haruki Nakamura’s Japan relief charity event at Ripken Stadium Saturday. “If you’re not confident with who I am, I’m not sure what a year is going to make.”

Flacco added, “Ideally for me, I would like to start talks this year. Next year, I feel like they would have to throw something in front of me that’s going to be pretty legit in order for me to not play out my fifth year. If you don’t sign me this year, you’re making me play a whole year of my contract with no security. If you want to sign me after next year, what’s playing six more months.”

Over his first three seasons, Flacco has already set numerous franchise records–including passing yards (10,206) and touchdowns (60). While the Ravens have always contained one of the top defenses in the NFL each season, there were plenty of years prior to drafting Flacco when the team struggled to find a quarterback to build the franchise around. Flacco is clearly that type of player–so it’s a surprise the Ravens aren’t making more of an effort to keep their beloved quarterback happy.

maybe he has played well. maybe he will lead the ravens to a sb win. question.. did the man sign a binding contract for a certain number of years? man, i wish i could go to my boss and tell him i work harder and better than everyone else in the world and that i need a raise. wonder what kind of response any of us in the real world would get? i don’t.
