There were high expectations for Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith after the team used their second-round pick (58th overall), but the former Maryland standout was ineffective his first two games and entered Week 3 still looking for that first career catch. With Lee Evans out against the St. Louis Rams, Smith stepped it up for the Ravens on offense and wasted no time making an impact in the first quarter.

In the first quarter alone, Smith caught three passes for 133 yards from Joe Flacco–all of which went for touchdowns to help Baltimore jump out to an early 21-0 lead. Smith scored touchdowns from 74, 41, and 18 yards–which is impressive considering he can officially say his first three career receptions all came in the end zone.

Flacco and the Ravens have been looking for extra help in the passing game behind Anquan Boldin and Ray Rice since Evans has been quiet his firs two games. With the emergence of Smith against a St. Louis team that entered Sunday ranked sixth against the pass–so let’s hope he can be an effective option for Baltimore from here on out.
