For the past two seasons, Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Michael McAdoo has watched football from afar. Unfortunately, McAdoo is making that three seasons due to yet another injury.

Back in 2010, McAdoo sat out his final college season at North Carolina after violating NCAA rules. After going undrafted in the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft, he joined the Ravens as a free agent with raw potential and upside. He spent the entire 2011 season on the Injured Reserve list, and was finally ready to see the field in 2012.

That was until he fell victim to an Achilles tendon tear last month during Ravens offseason workouts, effectively bringing any hopes he had of playing in 2012 to a bitter end.

This latest injury will sideline McAdoo for the remainder of the 2012 season, making it now three years in a row that he will be forced to watch helplessly from the sidelines in between sessions with the trainer.

Despite the numerous setbacks that McAdoo has suffered in his pursuit of NFL success, the Ravens aren’t yet ready to give up on the promising pass-rusher.

“He’s not a guy we’ll give up on,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told Garrett Downing of BaltimoreRavens.com. “He’s just going to be a project for us. He’s going to get another year in the weight room and in the meetings and try to see if he can be a player next year.”

There’s plenty of potential still waiting to be unlocked with McAdoo. The big question is whether or not he’ll ever be healthy enough to suit up for the Ravens. At this point, only time will tell.
