According to the Tampa Tribune, former All-American and Oklahoma Sooner great Lee Roy Selmon has passed away. Selmon suffered a major stroke on Friday.

Conflicting reports on Friday said Selmon had passed two days ago. Later on Friday it was reported that he was still alive. It was believed that one of the greatest defensive players in college football and NFL history was making a recovery.

Selmon is considered my many in Oklahoma to be the greatest player in OU history. In 1976 Selmon became the Tampa Bay Bucs first ever draft pick and would go on to become a Hall of Fame inductee.

Selmon’s death has hit the Sooner family very hard and comes just one day after Oklahoma honored another fallen Sooner, Austin Box, who died in May.
