NCAA Basketball Tournament: Georgetown vs. North Carolina State Preview
Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

Game: (3) Georgetown – (11) North Carolina State 3/18  12:15 PM ET

Bracket:  Midwest Region

Game Analysis:  Before Georgetown’s 74-59 win over Belmont last round, the team was on a 3-3 skid to end their regular season.  The Hoyas have been extremely inconsistent throughout the year, but they are a very strong rebounding team and they shoot over 46% from the field as well.  North Carolina State upset seventh seed San Diego State last round 79-65 and are playing extremely well right now.  The Wolfpack have some of the best, young post players in the tournament still and it will certainly give them an advantage in the later minutes of the game.

Matchup to Watch:  Georgetown Bigs vs. North Carolina State Bigs – Georgetown averages 36.4 boards per game, while NC State averages a comparable 37.2 per game.  The Hoyas are led by guards Jason Clark (13.9 points a game) and Hollis Thompson (12.7 points).  They are amazing penetrating guards and also know how to fight under the basket for boards.  However, the Wolfpack have relied on forwards C. J. Leslie and Richard Howell to protect their interior, as the duo have combined for just under 17 rebounds a game.  Leslie is an amazing athlete at the forward position and at only 209 pounds he is still a very punishing post player.  Howell is the more experienced defender and will be very hard for the Georgetown guards to get past.

Prediction:  Florida State 71 – Georgetown 70
