Amarillo Sox mascot costume goes terribly wrong
Last evening in Amarillo, Texas, the local independent baseball team, the Amarillo Sox, were set to unveil the much-anticipated mascots for the team which is playing its first season of baseball at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
The mascot was intended to look like a sock, mirroring the club’s brand mark, and instead ending up looking well–as you can tell from the picture–not like a sock but something much more suggestive as a two-foot long “appendage” stuck out from the mascot’s side.
Whoops.
People in the Texas Panhandle don’t typically see the humor in these types of situations and would prefer to be offended instead and speak their minds.
And evidently speak their minds they did, as Sox General Manager Mark Lee had to apologize in this morning’s newspaper for the appearance of the mascot and explain that it did not come out as intended and was being fixed immediately.
Just another example of how a minor league baseball promotion that was intended to be tame enough, and a positive experience for a new team, can end up being a disaster.
It always pays to do your homework ahead of time so the outcome isn’t a surprise but what was intended.
Seems simple enough.

Before they unveiled the new mascot, they were asking the Amarillo community to name it. We decided that “Mr. Happy” would be the perfect name!
Hahaha! That is CLASSIC!
