Jaromir Jagr Throws Jabs at Pittsburgh Fans, Doesn’t Care If He’s Hated
New Philadelphia Flyer Jaromir Jagr has broken some of the off season silence, with a couple of interesting quotes.
Jagr returns to the NHL after a couple of years playing in the KHL. He reportedly spurned offers to return to his first NHL club, the Pittsburgh Penguins, opting to sign with their hated rival the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to Jagr he’s not really sure why he’s hated in Pittsburgh (Yeah right) and more importantly he doesn’t seem to care. In quotes provided by Broad Street Hockey’s Teemu, Jagr had this to say:
“I know I’m number one enemy in Pittsburgh. I don’t know why and I don’t care”
Seems like a little gamesmanship by Jagr perhaps? I find it hard to believe that he doesn’t know why he’s the “number one enemy” in Pittsburgh. There were reported meetings between Jagr and former teammate Mario Lemieux; the two apparently discussed a Pittsburgh return for Jagr. Some reports even added that Jagr was willing to return for the league minimum. The news had Pittsburgh in an excited frenzy, hoping to once again see Jagr sport a Pens jersey.
To then see him sign with the hated Flyers? There’s no way Jagr doesn’t know why he’s not the most popular person in Pittsburgh.
Jagr also had this to say about Pittsburgh fans, a quote that’s sure to get them going:
“It’s like when a boy breaks up with a girl & the boy is totally over it, but the girl starts to throw crap.”
This is basically a “get over it” statement from Jagr to Pittsburgh fans. In case you were wondering, the Penguins and Flyers first meeting will be on December 8th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Seems like a long wait, but with new fuel added to this fiery rivalry, the wait will be worth it.
