Fan hospitalized after fall at Rangers Ballpark
Unfortunately, no matter how safe a place may be, and how good everyone’s intentions are, sometimes lightning can strike twice.
Deja vu isn’t all that selective.
According to reports, a 24 year-old man fell 21 feet from a stairwell at the Ballpark at Arlington during last evening’s Texas Rangers game. The fan was given immediate attention and was transported to a local hospital around 9:45 last evening, but it is unclear injuries resulted from the fall.
This incident comes on the heels of the death of Texas Rangers fan Shannon Stone, who fell from the left-field bleachers at the Ballpark at Arlington on July 7th.
Nolan Ryan and Rangers leadership realized that further improvements needed to be made to the Ballpark to ensure that similar incidents be less likely to happen in the future, and reacted accordingly, increasing the height of the protective railing surrounding the outfield fences and between rows of seats.
Last night’s incident is further proof that things can go sideways in spite of best intentions. While the Arlington police department has ruled out any foul play in the incident– and determined that the individual who fell from the stairs was with friends with whom he attended the game– it’s still no less bizarre that the Rangers are in the midst of deja vu just as they try to make a playoff run.
Luckily, the Rangers have one of the best front-offices in all of Major League Baseball– led by team president Nolan Ryan– who handle any difficult situation which calm and grace.
God knows they’ve had plenty of practice in 2011.

People need to watch where they are going. They are not kids.
Thanks for the comment Michael– I agree. We don’t know that alcohol was involved here, but it definitely could have been. Either way, people assume risk when they enter the facility and are responsible for how they do/do not act.
Always such a shame when people are seriously injured or die when they are doing something they love, watching the game. Its so sad, we have seen many things like that here in the UK over the years, sometimes ending in disaster, maybe more safety can be looked at for those venues?
Thanks for the comment– It’s a sad situation for sure for the Rangers. Safety is becoming more an more of a concern for teams across the country as they try to pack more fans into small spaces. The Rangers have already made some changes to their facility, but I’m sure more are on their way.
