After a spectacularly entertaining weekend of 2012 NFL Football, what can the Packers and Giants do for an encore?

HALFTIME UPDATE:

Apparently they can do plenty. What appeared to be a Field Goal separation between the two teams at the half turned into a 20-10 Giants lead as Eli Manning and Hakeem Nicks connected for a 38 yard heave as time expired. I can imagine Lambeau Field got awfully quiet.

At the half, the Giants have 311 total offensive yards to the Packers 170. Manning has 274 yards on 14 of 24 throwing with 2 TDs, both to Nicks who has 152 yards. Aaron Rodgers and his receivers look slightly out of sync as he was 12 of 21 for only 117 yards. He’s had to run the ball 4 times and is their leading rusher with 25 yards.

3RD QUARTER UPDATE:

In a back and forth 3rd quarter, the only score was a Packers field goal. Rodgers actually threw a perfect TD pass to Greg Jennings who allowed the ball to go right through his hands in the corner of the end zone. We’ll see if that’s going to come back to haunt Packer nation. As we head to the 4th quarter of the final game of this very exciting 2012 NFL Divisional Round weekend, who do you think is going to come through in the clutch? Let’s hear those predictions!

4TH QUARTER UPDATE:

The 4th Quarter ended up being an unexciting finish as the Giants ran away early and never really looked back. The Packers’ fate was sealed by a Ryan Grant fumble — their 4th turnover of the game — which would lead to a Mario Manningham touchdown catch from Eli Manning which would put the game out of reach for good.

For the Packers, this was a painful home playoff loss after a season in which they had their hopes not only on a Super Bowl win, but an undefeated season until the Kansas City Chiefs upset them in week 15. Now they, like the other powerhouse Saints, will have to find some defense and perhaps even a running game. For the Giants, they will have to head to San Francisco to face a 49ers team who is playing lights out football. Eli Manning has yet again had the last laugh at Lambeau in the postseason as he finished 21 or 33 passing for 330 yards and 3 TDs with only 1 first half interception. Hakeem Nicks finished with another big game as he caught 7 balls for 165 and the 2 TDs. NFL MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers looked surprisingly average as he finished 26 of 46 for 264 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. He was their leading rusher as he carried 7 times for 66 yards. His receivers failed him as Donald Driver was the leading pass-catcher with only 3 catches and 45 yards. Big play guys Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, and Jermichael Finley were nowhere to be found.

  1. gilgerard says:

    And we’re off….. predictions?????

I say NYG with the upset… Giants 38, Packers 35

  2. Joshua Casey says:

Packers pass defense looking suspect to start off the game.

    • Matt Wagner says:

You’re definitely right about the pass defense Joshua. Shredding them right now. Have to improve on that. NYG really should’ve scored a touchdown though. Missed opportunity.

      • gilgerard says:

Yep, definitely can’t miss those kind of chances – a FG or 2 isn’t bad, but they’re going to need TDs to beat those Cheeseheads

  3. Joshua Casey says:

Eli Manning looking great to start off the game.

  4. Joshua Casey says:

Great Stop by the Packers defense, with the way Manning was connecting on that drive it looked like he wasn’t going to be able to be stopped.

  5. gilgerard says:

Come on Eli – gotta get that one in the endzone and take advantage of all redzone opportunities…

But 3-0 Giants is a good way to start for my prediction, so I’ll take it

    • Matt Wagner says:

Giants have to play perfect football to have a shot. The Giants pass rush has to have a big game, in particular.

      • gilgerard says:

Agreed Matt – that’s the one reason I’m predicting the Giants upset. They have the defensive line to put the pressure on Rodgers

  6. gilgerard says:

Crap looks like Cobb is down

  7. Joshua Casey says:

Cobb’s knee was down they’re going to have to review this and the ball will go back to Green Bay.

  8. gilgerard says:

Ryan Grant is going to try and do his best James Starks impression this year by the looks of it

His first fun wasn’t nice to see for Giants fans

  9. gilgerard says:

Uh oh. Rodgers not rusty at all

  10. Joshua Casey says:

    Rodgers looks sharp.

  11. gilgerard says:

Uh oh I take that back… He was WIDE OPEN AARON!

    Oops

  12. Joshua Casey says:

Rodgers missed Jennings, who was wide open. It was a great double move by Jennings but rather than turning around to get open Jennings should of cut to avoid the turn around and inevitable fall that he endured.

  13. Joshua Casey says:

The Packers need to put pressure on Eli and not let him sit in the pocket.

  14. gilgerard says:

Hakeem Nicks is a beast – if he has a game like he did last week, the Pack secondary is in trouble regardless of whether or not they have the best DB in the league

  15. gilgerard says:

    OH MAN right on cue!!!!!!

    Hakeem!!!!

  16. Matt Wagner says:

Wow. No pass rush whatsoever. Just splitting the secondary too. 10-3 Giants.

  17. gilgerard says:

I think the G Men can live with Rodgers running like that. All it takes is a couple solid shots to get him thinking about the hits a little bit

  18. gilgerard says:

    Ball!!

    Pack have some butter fingers…

  19. Matt Wagner says:

NYG just caught a huge break. Kickoff at the 40 but then the forced fumble. Huge break…. let’s see if they can capitalize… Tom Coughlin challenging. Ruled catch and knee down on the field.

  20. gilgerard says:

    Bogus.

  21. Matt Wagner says:

Ruling on the field stands. Wow! Didn’t expect that!

  22. Joshua Casey says:

I don’t know what the refs saw to keep that as Green Bay’s ball.

  23. gilgerard says:

crap. i so dislike the folk hero. wisconsin loves him way too much

  24. Joshua Casey says:

    Nice play to Kuhn.

  25. Steven Resnick says:

Time for the Packers to take advantage!

  26. Steven Resnick says:

Also, won’t be surprising to see a Eli Manning turnover soon

    • gilgerard says:

I hope not Steve. Eli needs to have a 0 turnover game – typically tough to do against this pack takeaway machine

  27. gilgerard says:

    Trickery = Backfired.

    Sorry McCarthy

  28. Matt Wagner says:

Now that was just stupid! No upside to that.

  29. Joshua Casey says:

Surprise onside kick doesn’t pan out how McCarthy would’ve liked it to.

  30. gilgerard says:

    oh COME ON!

    damn you pack special teams

  31. Joshua Casey says:

Brad Jones blocks the field goal attempt by Tynes and the Giants come up empty with short field position.

  32. gilgerard says:

Any predictions as to what the score will be at the end of the half?

    I’ll go 17-17.

  33. gilgerard says:

Aaron Rodgers is doing his best Tim Tebow impression out there

  34. Joshua Casey says:

Rodgers isn’t getting help from his receivers, who keep dropping passes when they’re wide open.

  35. gilgerard says:

    So much for Eli’s turnover-less game…

  36. Joshua Casey says:

Packers defensive pressure causes Eli Manning to throw a pick

  37. gilgerard says:

Thank you folk hero for totally redeeming yourself (to Giants fans!!)

  38. Steven Resnick says:

As a 49ers fan would rather see the Giants coming back to San Francisco then the 49ers having to play in Lambeau field against the Packers.

    • brian says:

With your 49ers playing like they did yesterday, they won’t lose to anyone. NO and Brees coming off the best QB season ever played a near perfect game and still couldn’t win

  39. brian says:

Come on Giants stuff it in there. Can’t settle for 3 here

  40. brian says:

Won’t beat the Packers with FGs damnit!

  41. gilgerard says:

Boom. Giants finally get a sack

  42. Robert D. Cobb says:

Big play by the #Giants, I havea feeling that this is going to come down to a ST play.

  43. gilgerard says:

Wow GREAT play by Bradshaw. Try to get another FG…

Wait what are they doing? Too far away?

  44. gilgerard says:

    OH

    MY

    GOD

    SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Robert D. Cobb says:

Hakeem Nicks just silences all of #PackerNation with that TD grab, NOW that’s a momentum shift #NYG #Gmen #Packers #gopackgo

    • gilgerard says:

Yeah I wonder if that’s the first ever hail mary at a half like that

Hell I can’t even think of any hail mary passes in ANY playoff games

  46. Robert D. Cobb says:

Halftime at Lambeau with the Giants up 20-10 over the defending Super Bowl champs. It looks like Manning has rediscovered his 2007 form in the first half.

The star of the first half has been Giants WR Hakeem Nicks who has 152 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Can the Giants continue this? Will the packers defense show up?

    We shall see.

  47. gilgerard says:

I wonder how quiet Lambeau was at halftime

    2nd Half starting… let’s get it on!

  48. gilgerard says:

Geez looks like the 1st half ending just made Rodgers mad

That pass right there was crazy – not even sure how he saw Driver

  49. gilgerard says:

    Atta boy Osi!!

    That’s what I’m talking about.

Eli and Giants need to make them pay – step on their throats while they’re down

  50. brian says:

Sure got a little quiet here and on FB – a lot of Packer fans out there!

  51. gilgerard says:

Is it me, or does Rodgers look rusty?

Maybe that’s what 2 weeks off will do to you…

  52. Jeff Shull says:

How much are the refs TRYING to screw over my Giants???? First the fumble that should have been over turned then they spot the ball like a yard shy of the actual spot which would have given the Giants a first down….the refs were terrible in the first matchup too…this is ridiculous

    • gilgerard says:

Yeah Jeff, refs have been dropping the ball here so far today… hopefully they don’t blow any key last minute calls like in the PIT/DEN game

  53. Jeff Shull says:

Giants defense has to step up in the 2nd half…they got fortunate on the drives on either side of that BS non fumble call

  54. gilgerard says:

Oops looks like Aikman and Buck are reading the live fan rant here!

    Haha

  55. brian says:

Packers starting to head to the running game. Giants need a big stop here on 3rd down inside the 20

  56. brian says:

DAMN that was a good pass by Rodgers

    Jennings……… butterfingers

  57. gilgerard says:

1 score game, and Packers about to get the ball back as we get ready for the 4th Quarter.

Who’s going to step up in CRUNCH TIME!?!?

  58. gilgerard says:

    Huge 4th down stop

  59. gilgerard says:

Is Nicks going to out do Vernon Davis’s 180+ yards?

  60. gilgerard says:

    Now the question is…

Does Aaron Rodgers have a little Tim Tebow in him?

  61. gilgerard says:

    Warm up the bus!

  62. Steven Resnick says:

Thank you Giants, 49ers fans say thank you!

  63. gilgerard says:

My 38 prediction for the Giants was right. If the Pack can somehow score 15 points in the last 2 minutes, I’ll be right on the money
