On a team like the Denver Nuggets with so many role players, the availability of every player is key to their success. That chemistry of the team is key and points need to be scored in a variety of ways. With each position working in some sort of platoon role, not having a back up will kill a team as a game drags on.

The above paragraph is the NBA basketball logic behind what will ultimately be the Nuggets’ downfall. In a league that requires superstars, maximizing role players can only work for so long. Their logic is that the Kobe Bryant’s of the basketball world ultimately trump team systems.

Well the Nuggets are out to prove the entire slant against team basketball wrong with their impressive 5-0 road trip. While the two toughest games against Philadelphia and New York both went to overtime, this team battled a ton of injuries over the stretch.

Of the starting five, only Danilo Galinari was available for all five games at full health. Timofey Mosgov missed the Sacremento game because his wife had a baby. Nene missed some time early in the road trip and Aaron Afflalo missed the second leg of games.

Against Sacramento, on top of the absence of Afflalo and Mosgov, Rudy Fernandez was not available and Ty Lawson went down with an ankle injury. It did not matter, the Nuggets won by 29 points against a disoriented Kings team. The best part for the Nuggets was that the bench continued to carry the team led by Jordan Hamilton and DeMarre Carroll.

Bigger tests are coming for the Nuggets. Perhaps injuries and superstar power will catch up to them in the next 15 days when they 10 games. For now though, every player on this team is just waiting to step up and help the Nuggets win.
