Washington Redskins Quarterbacks Coach Matt LaFleur  is in an interesting position.

He has a chance to be a part of what could be the most important scouting event of this decade for the Redskins.  He’s out there with the quarterbacks of the South, and  has a chance to get a real nice look at their style, mannerisms, and playing ability.

How much of that intelligence will be passed along to Mike Shanahan when it comes to making “the decision”? Only time will tell.

And there’s nothing wrong with picking one of these guys as the next Redskins QB. It’s happened before.

You can’t forget Mark Rypien.

Rypien came onto the field in ’86 with a day’s worth of practice (and as a backup, because he wasn’t scheduled to play) and left victorious with three touchdown passes to show it. In the years to follow he would bear witness to the Redskins winning with Doug Williams in Super Bowl XXII. Later, he would orchestrate his own Opus: Super Bowl XXVI, where he was  MVP.

Just to think, he was a Senior Bowl Quarterback. However, that was a long, long time ago. That’s why you won’t see me writing any anniversary articles about those wins. You can’t lean on old victories. Those were different teams with a different coach.

I can’t help but call it fate: The  Redskins are staffing the South during a time where they’re also looking for a quarterback.

The last time the Redskins participated in the Senior Bowl was 1998.

So yes, Matt LaFleur  is in an interesting position.

He has a team that needs a quarterback, a head coach that needs some insight, an offensive coordinator that’s starving for a spark plug to that offense, and a franchise that’s waiting patiently for “The one who will bring balance to “The Force”".

Hopefully he doesn’t just blow past what he sees out there on the field.  We may  need one of those guys if the draft goes…South (no pun intended).

Don’t doubt his skills either-this is the same guy who was with Kyle Shanahan working the ’09 Houston Texans.  They know a thing or two about a good offense.

They just need a quarterback.
