While the world talks about Peyton Manning’s chances with the Washington Redskins, there’s a group of Miami Dolphin fans that would like to have their team in that conversation. The group behind the website,www.manningtomiami.com hopes their actions will gain enough support to draw the legendary quarterback  South.

In an over-the-phone interview with Will Casino,  one of the site’s  coordinators, he said the idea is more of a “movement”.

“It’s something that people can take a hold of and grasp onto. It’s something they can be passionate about, and be excited about. It’s something they can share with their family, share with their friends, share with their kids. It’s something they can get behind and support.  There’s not too much nowadays that will allow you to do that,” he said.

Casino said his reasons for the site is to bring the ” influential, elite, positive quarterback not only to the Dolphins, but to all the Dolphin fans, and to South Florida.”

He said, “When you bring someone of that type of caliber to a city, to a state, that changes the atmosphere. It changes the economy. In some cases it changes whole people’s perspectives.”

So what sparked the idea? What took this idea from being a website, to a Billboard, to news around the country?

“We’re big Dolphin fans, but I would go to say we’re bigger Peyton Manning fans,” Casino explained. “So the two combined, in our eyes, is a match made in heaven.”

He said he and his co-workers were talking business one day when the topic of Manning and Dolphins came up.  He said the question was then asked, “Why can’t we try and do something about it? Why can’t we be influential?  If we’re passionate about it, how many other people are going to be passionate about it?”

Afterwards the site was formed. “Every person that registers we’re going to show to the Dolphins organization along with Peyton Manning and his people to try and influence his decision. ”

The site also has a blog and a sponsor page.

They also have a store where you can buy Peyton Manning T-Shirts. Proceeds go to the Dolphins Foundation and Peyton Manning’s foundation.

“We’re not doing it for profit. We’re doing it because we think it’s a hell of an idea.” Casino said.

And the billboard?

Once the website was operational, along with a Twitter page, Casino said the billboard came next.

A billboard is displayed alongside I-595 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after it was unveiled Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, as part of a campaign by a group called Manning to Miami. “When we did the Billboard, that’s when things exploded,” he said. “This thing went viral.”

It took only a couple of days for the billboard to gain national attention.  “Our website had close to 70, 000 people in a day in a half. Are all those people registering for the  idea? For the movement? No.  We’re still getting the amount of support and traffic and those numbers count.”

Are you guys ready to give a rough estimate on how many people have signed the petition for Manning to come to Miami?

“Not really,” Casino said. “We don’t think it’s sizable enough yet.”

However, he did admit the registration numbers are in the thousands.

NOTE: Miami fans aren’t the first to do this. Last year, Denver Broncos fans campaigned via billboards for Tim Tebow get the start. The result: A winning season Denver didn’t see coming, and an epic folktale that will be told in sports bars for the next 20 years. <<Huffington Post:  ‘Play Tebow!’ Billboard Goes Up In Denver (PHOTOS)>>

Now it’s Miami’s turn, and they’re ready to go the distance.

“You look in the stands and there are empty seats all over Dolphins Stadium,” Casino said. He said if you put Peyton Manning with the Miami Dolphins, “You sell out games”.

Peyton Manning…a Miami Dolphin? Hey,  I think it’s better than him being a Redskin. As I’ve stated in the past, Manning is not a good fit for the Redskins.  I don’t think he’ past his prime, but I do think he’s not an answer to the Redskins’ quarterback situation.  Who knows…maybe Peyton will have his own “decision” to make.
