NBC has partnered with Internet giant YouTube to leverage the company’s streaming technology as a value add for the network’s coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

If there were any concerns that remained in regards to the audience NBC would be able to retain during the 2012 games, this partnership should put those concerns to rest. Not only will NBC be able to leverage YouTube technology to have access to a new audience online, YouTube will earn substantial brand equity by aligning themselves with the television giant.

It’s the classic win-win scenario.

All live event coverage will be streamed on NBCOlympics.com and YouTube will be used for event wrap-ups, interviews and other added material which will include exclusive online segments with Olympics participants. YouTube will also promote NBC coverage of the various events through a unique NBC Olympics partner page.

As people start to turn to the Internet, and away from television, these types of media partnerships which benefit both parties involved will become more common. YouTube is now the power player in streaming technology, and this partnership with NBC is just the first of many future relationships to come.

NBC has made a move here which should pay great dividends for not only the network, but for advertisers and sponsors who pay dearly to promote their services and products during the games.

This return on investment is essential to make things run smoothly and help NBC continue to retain broadcast rights to the games as other networks wait in the wings.
