NBA Rumors: Dwight Howard Should Consider Houston Rockets Long-Term

By Andrew Fisher

In the latest and greatest Dwight Howard trade rumors, the Houston Rockets have confidently thrown their hat into the ring as a potential suitor. However, Houston is supposedly not on his “list” and most have him playing for the Brooklyn Nets or the Dallas Mavericks in the very near future.

Of the course the catch here is that Dwight is still under contract for another year, and if the Orlando Magic get a heck of a trade offer from the Rockets, why wouldn’t they take it? Then poor Dwight will have no choice but to take his talents to Houston.

I say that sarcastically because I’ve openly criticized Howard in the past. Mainly just because of the way he’s handled his expiring contract situation over the last year. I see Howard as immature. I don’t hate him, but I’ve done my share of hating on him.

See I think Houston is a great fit for Howard. Why? Because of two people: Kevin McHale and Hakeem Olajuwon.

McHale and Olajuwon are both NBA Hall of Fame big men, who would be in Houston to help Howard. McHale is obviously the head coach, and Olajuwon still lives in the area.

It’s been no secret that Olajuwon worked with Lebron James on his post game over the past year, why wouldn’t he also help Howard? Right there, with just 2 new post coaches, Howard would get better.

Clearly he’s going to have to take his game to the next level if he wants to win a championship, no matter where he plays, so why not in Houston with two of the best possible coaches he could ask for?

As of today the Rockets own the 14, 16, and 18 picks in the first round of the NBA Draft, and they also have an offer on the table to send Kyle Lowry and the 14th and 16th picks to the Sacramento Kings for Tyreke Evans and the 5th overall pick.

With the potential talent also heading to Houston, and the coaching talent that awaits him, Dwight Howard has to at least give the Rockets a good look.

They’re a franchise with a good tradition, but nothing that Howard couldn’t live up to. He seems to be hung up on the idea of starting his own legacy somewhere, but he must realize that his time to win a championship is ticking…
