Reports are saying Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best, who missed most of the 2011 season after suffering his second concussion, might take part in the team’s off season work out program that begins this week.

This is great news for the Lions and their fans. They have been through a trying couple of weeks after the recent arrests of Nick Fairley and Mikel Leshoure. As well as the more recent news of former Lions player Charles Rogers getting arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his mom.

Although, Best has not been officially cleared by the Lions medical staff, he has been working out on his own since December. During the first weeks of the Lions off season workout program, Best and his Lions teammates will only be doing strength and conditioning workouts. This is a huge step for him just being around and working out with his teammates.

The Lions missed Best after he got injured. They became primarily a passing offense, that became one of the NFL’s best. They reach the playoffs for the first time since 1999. The Lions were easily beaten by the New Orleans Saints because of their defense’s inability to stop the Saints offense. They also did not have a running game that could get them first downs, and control the clock as the Saints were able to against them.

Having Best back gives the Lions a running game that will complement their strong passing offense. They will be able to not only challenge the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears for the NFC North Division title, they will have an offense that will give them a great chance to advance further in the playoffs.

The Lions know they are a better team with Best in their back field. If Best is able to use his great running and receiving abilities to make the Lions offense better than they were in 2011 then the Lions will be legit Super Bowl contenders for seasons to come.

The Detroit Lions should consider drafting cornerback Josh Robinson from Central Florida in the 1st round. After the recent arrest of Nick Fairley and Mikel Leshoure for possession of marijuana. The Lions might be thinking twice about drafting Janoris Jenkins.

Robinson would be a wise choice for the Lions to pick instead. He has all the abilities of Jenkins without all the added baggage. Robinson is a safer choice, but has the makings of being an impact player that will get the Lions to the next level.

With less than two weeks until the NFL draft. The Lions will be going back and forth over how they should use the 23rd pick to improve their team. They know they have obvious areas on defense they have to address. Their offensive line is continuing to get older, and is a concern the Lions will need to focus on either in the later rounds of the 2012 draft or soon after.

After reaching the post season for the first time since 1999. The Lions should put their focus on improving their defense in the early rounds of the draft. Their offense got them to the playoffs, while their defense was a liability that will prevent them from progressing further. Unless they draft or bring in players to address those areas..

Drafting Robinson, who impressed many at the NFL combine with his speed and agility. He will make an instant impact with his abilities to make the plays the Lions were not able to in 2011. His great speed and strong tacking is something Lions need in their efforts to improve in 2012. If the Lions decide to not select Janoris Jenkins in the first round. Josh Robinson will be ready to give the Lions the defensive playmaker they need.

The Detroit Lions should sign free agent linebacker James Farrior. With the Lions re-signing Stephen Tulloch, bringing in a veteran linebacker such James Farrior will help improve their defense against the run and pass.

James Farrior has played 15 seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Farrior just came off the 2011 season, in which he made 78 tackles, 54 of which were solo, and assisted with 24 tackles. The most important reason the Lions should want to sign James Farrior is the leadership and experience he can bring to their young and very talent club. He has been to three Super Bowls with the Steelers and won two of them.

Bringing in a player with the kind of experience he has to a team that have shown they can be great, at the same time have made mental errors on the field and off the field. That they have to learn from, to be recognized as legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl.

The Lions should seriously consider signing James Farrior to improve their defense that was ranked 22nd against the pass, and ranked 23rd in the against the run. Super Bowl winning teams generally, except for a few exceptions have had better defensive statistics than the Lions had in 2011. By Signing Farrior the Lions will be bolster the defense against both the pass and run.

NFL experts and fans may be turned off by Farrior because he is 37 years old with many mileage on his body. The Lions front office needs to focus on his career statistics. More important his play on the field speaks for it self. If they do, they will want to sign him to help improve the Lions become Super Bowl contenders in 2012.

The Detroit Lions are a great team but have a lot of needs to fill with the 2012 draft. The Lions’ passing defense and their offensive line are what Jim Schwartz and the rest of the Lions coaching staff should focus on. Drafting a cornerback would be very smart choice. Janoris Jenkins has had off-field issues that could allow him to fall in Lions hands.

There are scouts and analysts that say drafting a player with off-field issues means bringing those issues to the NFL. Randy Moss is always used an example. He was always in and out of trouble when he was playing for Marshall. Moss was extremely talented and played great as a wide receiver when he was on the football field.

When it came to the NFL draft, Moss and his off-field issues took away his chances of being a top 5 or top 10 pick in the 1998 draft. He fell into the hands of the Minnesota Vikings as the 21st pick. Moss, with the help of veteran wide receiver Cris Carter, helped the Vikings to a 15-1 record. The Vikings were one win away from reaching the Super Bowl in 1998.

When Moss kept his mouth shut, he kept out of trouble. He has put up hall of fame numbers for a wide receiver. Janoris Jenkins could be seen in a similar light. He has great talent that the Lions need in their secondary. One of the main reasons they lost to the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs in 2011 is the Lions could not stop the Saints passing game when needed. Drew Brees threw the ball at will and decimated the Lions secondary in a blow-out victory.

Drafting Janoris Jenkins will go a long way in preventing another blow out loss in the playoffs. Yes there is a high risk in drafting Jenkins but with a high risk can come high rewards. Jim Schwartz brings the type of football that has earned the full respect of his players. Ndamukong Suh got suspended for 2 games. Schwartz talked to Suh and when Suh came back from his suspension his play did the talking and nothing else happened for the rest of the 2011 season.

If Jenkins is left on the board and the Lions do not draft him, they will feel like those 20 NFL teams that missed the opportunity to take Randy Moss in the 1998 draft. If you asked any of those teams today, they would have picked up Moss.

After reaching the playoffs for the first time since 1999, the Lions have to keep improving their play on the field. Even if they lose key players to free agency because of salary cap issues, the draft is a good way to bring in other talent to help fill those voids.

Drafting Janoris Jenkins is a must. His great talent and abilities can disrupt the opponents’ passing game. The Detroit Lions need this type of player. The Lions do not have much in the secondary position. Jenkins can bring the needed improvement for years to come.

The Detroit Lions should not draft a running back in the 1st round, because their running game was not the reason the Lions were blown out of their first playoff game since 1999. Their passing and run defense got exposed and destroyed by the New Orleans Saints. It is true the Lions’ running game was ranked 29th in the NFL, and they have no idea what to expect when running backs Jahvid Best and Mikel Leshoure return to the field from injuries.

Leshoure did not help this by getting arrested for possession of marijuana recently. Now Leshoure may face felony charges, plus a fine, and or suspension from the NFL, which will only delay his return to the field. Jahvid Best has been medically cleared to return to practice. Best has suffered two concussions, but has followed his doctors advice on the road to recovery. The Lions’ front office and their coaches are continually monitoring Best’s progress. Best believes he will be healthy and ready to play in 2012. The Lions also re-signed running back Kevin Smith as insurance in case either or both Leshoure or Best are not able to play.

Drafting a running back in the first round will not help the Lions get closer to reaching a Super Bowl. They would be taking steps backwards if they do. The Lions will be missing out on drafting players that will improve their passing and run defense instantly.

If the Lions want to draft a running back, they can wait until the middle or later rounds to do so. There will be running backs available then. The Lions need to focus on improving their passing and run defense in the early rounds of the NFL draft.

Improving the Lions’ defense in the 2012 NFL draft will only make them better overall. They already have a great offense. If Best can come back, and help complement the Lions’ passing game.Their offense will be even scarier than it was in 2011. If the Lions draft the right players to improve their defense, they will be Super Bowl contenders going in to the 2012 season.

Detroit Lions will not allow their players’ arrest to distract them as they have high expectations going into the 2012 season after reaching the playoffs for the first time since the 1999 season.

People that think the Detroit Lions will allow the recent arrest of Mikel Leshoure and Nick Fairley on marijuana possession effect their play on field are wrong. Head Coach Jim Schwartz and his coaching staff will not allow the Detroit Lions to take any steps backwards. Schwartz will make sure his team will be playing like super bowl contenders in 2012.

If running back Jahvid Best returns healthy, and is able to be the player the Detroit Lions drafted him to be . The Detroit Lions are a major threat to take the Black & Blue Division title from the Green Bay Packers. With Jahvid Bests’ running and receiving abilities, he will compliment the Detroit Lions high powered passing offense.

The Detroit Lions will use the 2012 NFL Draft and free agency to address their pass coverage and other areas that opposing teams took advantage of in 2011. The Detroit Lions used the franchise tag on Cliff Avril and re-signed Stephen Tulloch helping keep the core of the Lions defense together.

The Detroit Lion players have so much pride in their play that Matthew Stafford, Nate Burelson, and Ndamukong Suh all restructured their contracts. To help the Detroit Lions have the flexibility to re-sign players ,and address other needs. They will not allow the recent arrests, or other distractions keep them from their goal of improving on what the Detroit Lions accomplished in 2011.

The Detroit Lions have entered a new age. They have high expectations, that will soon lead them to winning a Super Bowl, and bringing the Vince Lombardi trophy home to the city of Detroit. The recent arrest of Mikel Leshoure and Nick Fairley hurt the Detroit Lions team as a whole. At the same time the Detroit Lions will not allow these distractions to come between them and the goals they want to accomplish in the near future.

Detroit Lions should consider drafting wide receiver Jordan White in the later rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft. Drafting a wide receiver is not a priority for the Detroit Lions because they have All-Pro Wide receiver Calvin Johnson and a great supporting cast of receivers. Just in case Calvin Johnson or the other receivers get injured or miss any significant time. Drafting a wide receiver such as Jordan White would be a smart decision.

Drafting Jordan White from Western Michigan will be a great insurance for the Detroit Lions at the wide receiver position. Jordan White is very talented and could be a sleeper because he is expected to be drafted in the later rounds of the NFL draft. Jordan White was very productive in 2011. White had 140 receptions to go along with 17 touchdown receptions. In 2010 he also had 94 receptions for 1378 yards.

Jordan White can help the Detroit Lions as wide receiver, or as a special teams player returning punts or kickoffs. He has great hands with the ability to run great routes that would work very well in the Detroit Lions offensive game plan. The negative on Jordan White is that he has torn the acl in both of his knees. Jordan White is a low risk with a possibility of being a highly rewarding draft pick for the Detroit Lions.

Drafting Jordan White will give The Detroit Lions additional depth at the wide receiver position and with their special teams. Jordan White has shown in his time at Western Michigan, that when he is on the field he can be very productive. With injuries and players leaving in free agency. Having a player with the talent and abilities that Jordan White has will be a luxury for the Detroit Lions.

Detroit Lions Expect Nate Burleson to improve in 2012. Nate Burleson is being paid to be the number two receiving option for the Detroit Lions. He only had three touchdown receptions in the 2011. With All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson getting all the attention and the extra coverage by the defense. Nate Burleson only having three touchdown receptions will not cut it this season.

Nate Burleson did restructure his contract to help the Detroit Lions get under the new NFL salary cap. The Detroit Lions were able to re-sign Calvin Johnson and Stephen Tulloch. Keeping their young and talented nucleus of players together for a long time. Nate Burleson is a great and unselfish teammate. But he needs to be more productive on the football field in 2012. The Detroit Lions have higher expectations going into the 2012 season after reaching the playoffs for the first time since 1999.

Nate Burleson has to look over his shoulder because the Detroit Lions have other options at the wide receiver position. Nate Burleson did not have a single 100 yard receiving game in 2011. This is truly hard to believe because Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson both had career years in 2011. Rookie wide receiver Titus Young had a tremendous 2011 season. Matthew Stafford could look to Titus Young in the near future as the number two wide receiver for the Detroit Lions.

Nate Burleson like the Detroit Lions going are into the 2012 season with high expectations. He needs to be a playmaker the Detroit Lions thought he would be when they brought him in. Burleson is very a talent receiver who can help can stretch the field and give Matthew Stafford a strong option to throw to when Calvin Johnson is not open. The 2012 season is huge for the Detroit Lions and for Nate Burleson. If he can improve his play and be able to solidify himself as the number two receiving target. Nate Burleson will be helping the Detroit Lions contend for the Super Bowl. If not he will drop to the third or fourth option for Matthew Stafford to throw to, and might not be with the Detroit Lions long enough to fulfill his contract.

The Detroit Lions should trade for Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel. This trade would be smart because the Detroit Lions passing secondary was torched by opponents in 2011. Bringing in veteran such as Asante Samuel will help fill the void left by cornerback Eric Wright, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Asante Samuel was voted to the NFL Pro Bowl four times in row from 2007 to 2010 and has two Super Bowl rings from his days with the New England Patriots. He Would give the Detroit Lions passing secondary a much needed boost going into the 2012 season.

If the Detroit Lions do indeed trade for Asante Samuel, they will definitely need to still think about drafting players that will help improve their passing secondary. Having a veteran such as Asante Samuels on the Detroit Lions, who has been to the top of the mountain in the NFL . Asante Samuel great knowledge and experience to mentor players the Detroit Lions will draft and be able to give advice on how to improve their play on the football field

Even though Asante Samuel is 31 years old, he still has years left in his body to play the cornerback position at a high level. The Detroit Lions have high expectations going into the 2012 NFL season. To give themselves the chance to play to those high expectations. The Detroit Lions will need to improve their passing secondary issues first and foremost. Trading for Asante Samuel would be a move in the right direction.

The Detroit Lions have a very talented nucleus of players that believes they can play and beat the elite teams in the NFL. If the Detroit Lions can pull off the trade to bring Asante Samuel in and use the 2012 NFL Draft to help solidify the rest of their passing secondary. The Detroit Lions will have will have a much improved passing secondary defense, to go along with their very talent defensive front-line. Add that with their high powered offense the sky is the limit for these Detroit Lions. The Detroit Lions have high expectations because they believe they will be contending for the Super Bowl in 2012 and for seasons to come.

The Detroit Lions just re-signed running back Kevin Smith. If the Detroit Lions draft Ronnie Hillman from San Diego State in the middle rounds of the 2012 NFL draft. Ronnie Hillman will be the insurance policy the Detroit Lions need at running back. The Detroit Lions did not have much of a running game after Jahvid Best went down for the season with his second concussion.

Ronnie Hillman is similar to Jahvid Best in that they both have great speed and the ability to do great things with the football in their hands. They both have great hands that will be an asset to the Detroit Lions passing game.

Drafting Ronnie Hillman will the give the Detroit Lions added depth at the running back position. If Jahvid Best and Mikel Leshoure are healthy the Detroit Lions will have the dynamic running attack that will be able to complement their prolific passing game.

Ronnie Hillman has the talent to be the impact player the Detroit Lions might very well need in 2012. The Detroit Lions have the luxury of being able to draft a running back with this much talent such as Ronnie Hillman in the middle of rounds of the 2012 draft. With the Detroit Lions having high expectations going in to the 2012 season after reaching the playoffs for the first time since 1999. It is smart idea for the Detroit Lions front office to make sure the Detroit Lions have enough depth at the running back position when the 2012 NFL season begins
