The fact that the Bruins are playing a Super Bowl Sunday matinee game in Washington is not going to deter them from enjoying a party at home that same night. They’re just going to really have to hurry to get back in time for kickoff and rely on the party-planning abilities of 24-year-old backup goalie Tuukka Rask.

For the second straight year, Rask is hosting a Super Bowl party at his house in Charlestown, according to NESN. While he did not get much exposure to football while growing up in Finland, since he came to America in 2007, he has developed a certain liking for it. He does admit that even with five years of watching football under his belt, he is starting to know the rules but “still [has] a long ways to go” in fully understanding it.

While he might still need some help understanding the game, he doesn’t need any help deciding what team to support in the Super Bowl. For him, and for the rest of the Bruins, it simply has to be the New England Patriots. Many of the Bruins, including Zdeno Chara, Tim Thomas, Patrice Bergeron and even coach Claude Julien, are featured in a video wishing their fellow Boston-area athletes good luck at the big game. (Julien jokes that any Bruins who were thinking of cheering for the New York Giants have already been traded.)

Rask said he knows some of the Patriots, although he didn’t disclose any further information about that.

He also seems pretty calm knowing that he’ll have to plan a big bash with enough food and drinks to satiate the appetites of hockey players, even with the fact that they’re going to be busy today and tomorrow too. If something should go wrong, though, I’d say keep the milk crates out of his reach.
