Rolston: Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE Mottau: Kevin Hoffman-US PRESSWIRE

The Boston Bruins acquired Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau from the New York Islanders in exchange for prospects Yannick Riendeau and Marc Cantin, according to Rotoworld.com and TSN.

Rolston is a forward who can play any role and was a Bruin from 1999 to 2004. In those years as a Bruin, he played 338 games and scored 238 points overall. This year he has scored four goals and five assists in 49 games with the Islanders.

Mottau is a defenseman who has had two assists in 29 games for the Islanders this season. In his career to date, he has played 307 games, scored seven goals and added 51 assists as an Islander and a Devil. Mottau is a Quincy, Mass. native and Boston College alumnus who still lives in Massachusetts.

Rolston’s veteran presence–and past experience as a Bruin–could help the Bruins as they look for a good top-three-line forward. Mottau, as a blueliner, can also provide some aid to the Bruins’ back end.
