The weather may have been gloomy outside Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, but inside the arena, the Boston Bruins were having a great matinee game against the New York Islanders. Eight different Bruins had at least a point by the final horn and two Bruins had three-point games en route to a 6-3 victory.

David Krejci scored twice, getting up to goal number 23 for the season. This matched and exceeded his previous best goal-scoring year, 2008-09, when he had 22 through all 82 games. Keep in mind there are still four more left to play in this campaign!

Chris Kelly netted his 20th goal of the season. This means 2011-12 is his most productive goal-scoring season so far and he now officially joins the Bruins’ 20+ goal scorers club. He scored his 20th coming off the post-fight momentum in the second period when Gregory Campbell took on Micheal Haley.

Brad Marchand and Tyler Seguin each got their 27th goals, assisting on one another’s tallies, which came within seven minutes at each other. (They were the two to have three-point games.) Patrice Bergeron also added his 21st as part of a very busy third period. All told, that line produced eight points in this game. There have been times when this line was broken, like when Seguin was shifted up to the first line with Krejci and Milan Lucic. But this line works so perfectly together that they need to stay united, especially going into the playoffs! When they’re at their best, they produce at this level consistently. The Bruins’ coaching staff and fans can place faith in 63-37-19.

Lucic may not have scored his own goal in this game, but he did assist on both of Krejci’s. This gave him 34, his career-best for helpers. He too is a member of the 20+ goals club, but he also has 131 penalty minutes–he’s a regular Jack of all trades.

Speaking of that 20+ goals club, it now has six members. Just to recall (and to allow you to soak in the numbers): Seguin and Marchand both have 27, Lucic has 24, Krejci has 23, Bergeron has 21 and Kelly has 20. Nathan Horton was at 17 when he was concussed in January, so the next potential 20+ goals member is Benoit Pouliot at 14. Hey, there is still time for him to enter the club. It’s a little implausible, but you never know.

The Islanders at first put up a good fight, tying the game twice to end the first two periods and sometimes really playing like they wanted to string together wins against two of the NHL’s best Eastern teams in a row. But then in the third period, Boston simply opened up and extended the lead until it was too much for the home team.

The Bruins will now take on the New York Rangers on April 1. Please note the game time has moved to 7 p.m. when originally it was slated for 3. The Rangers have bedeviled the Bs in all three of their previous meetings this season, so this is the last regular-season chance for Boston to notch a W against New York.
