Today in Boston Bruins History: May 5
1970: The Boston Bruins defeat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. They are one W away from winning it all and notching a high-water mark in Boston Bruins history.
1979: The Montreal Canadiens take a 5-1 victory against the Bruins in Game 5 of the semifinals.
1983: Coming off an 8-3 defeat just two days prior, the Bruins take Game 5 of their semifinal series against the New York Islanders, 5-1.
1990: Andy Moog earns a 3-0 shutout against the Washington Capitals in the conference finals.
1991: The Bruins lose 4-1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 3 of the semifinal series.
1992: The Bruins beat the Canadiens 3-2 in overtime. Peter Douris scores to end it after just 3:12 in the extra time.
1994: The New Jersey Devils prove to be a formidable opponent for the Bruins, beating them 4-2 in Game 3 of the conference semifinals. (This begins a four-game losing streak for the Bruins.)
2009: Unlike the 3-0 loss faced two days previously, this time the Bruins do at least score against the Carolina Hurricanes. They score twice, but it’s not enough to overcome the ‘Canes, who win 3-2 in Game 3 of the conference semifinals.
2010: The Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 in Game 3 of the conference semifinals. However, this will be the last Bruins win in the 2010 playoffs.
2011: On an off day for the Bruins, David M. Singer realizes that there could very well be a trio of semifinal sweeps, one of them being Bruins-Flyers.
