Boston Celtics Fan Revisits Hatred Of Lebron James
[picappgallerysingle id="8785283"]I posted this article after the Cavs were eliminated by the Celtics this past year. Due to the fact a lot of people are still sharing my hatred of Mr. James and my old site deleted this post, I will revisit my feeling on LeBum by posting this article again.
I can honestly say two things about LeBron James. Mr. James is the single greatest physical specimen that I have ever seen step on a basketball court. He is so physical going to the basket that I would put the force of his power drives to the hoop up against any angry rhino charging. The man has a decent outside shot that he has worked hard on. He is much better than he was at shooting than when his first year. Defensively, he is O.K. He is so physical that when he feels like playing defense that he can bull a man into passiveness. His shot blocking is like a predator stalking for a meal. There is no denying the man is talented. The man is a multiple MVP for a reason. He has taken a team that I feel is very weak and flawed and at least made them a beast in the regular season to deal with. However, the other fact I can honestly say is I absolutely detest the man as a player.
My hatred’s seed was sown when from the moment he stepped on the court he was being anointed as the next Jordan. Early on he tried to run from it and said all the right comments like I am trying to get better and not at that level. Looking at him he secretly loved the comparison. Who can blame LeBron? I would love to be compared to the greatest Basketball player I have ever seen (Sorry Larry Bird fans, Jordan was a freak of nature). However, he was so worried about image he hid it. Instead of being like the brash Kobe Bryant wearing number 24 because he wants to be one better than Jordan, he hides it. There is no shame in wanting to be the best and setting a goal. There is shame in hiding it to craft a certain image for financial gain. This man is so focused on his image that I liken to Alex Rodriguez. The media ripped him for running off the court last year without shaking hands in Orlando after the Magic knocked him out. This year he hugged every single player he could find. At first it was nice, but after hanging out for that extended period of time, it was pretty clear what he was doing. Image control. This image that he has crafted is also what will ultimately lead him out of the town that lives and dies on his every whim. Instead of sticking around and looking to show the loyalty that the fans blindly shower him with, he will go to the team that will give him the best chance to win now. The Bulls, Knicks, and even Miami can offer him that opportunity. The Cavs need a lot better supporting cast if they wish to compete for a real shot in the playoffs against Orlando, Boston, and L.A. He will thank the Cleveland faithful and then vanish to the quick fix. If he was older like KG was, I might cut the man some slack, but he still has many years to get it done. Cleveland could easily find some help and make him competitive for a title. Every year a star is available on a bad team or a team looking to go a different direction. I am not talking Antawn Jamison either, I mean more Amare Stoudemire. To leave will be the proof that what I am saying is true.
As a player on the court I think he is a baby. This is not entirely his fault. He has been gifted every call since his arrival. It is human nature to be upset, if you do not get what you feel entitled to. However, when one rants and raves like Rasheed Wallace, that is unacceptable. Best part is he does not even get T’d up like Sheed.
For god’s sakes the NBA hype machine calls his games like he can do no wrong. It is at as point where they call the games like his tattoos on his legs are the mantra. Witness History? I have not seen any history out of this man. How many rings? Right. He also has developed Pedro Martinez elbow. Pedro elbow is the disease where your arm hurts after a bad game. You did not play a bad game. You were hurt. When he won game won by burying a dagger three to ice the game, he was fine. He plays terrible in game four, it was his elbow. He shoots lights out in game three due to poor Celtic defense, he is fine. Games five and six, he was clearly hurt. He claims he made no excuses. That is 25 pounds of monkey crap in a 10 pound bag. The minute he announced the elbow was hurt it was an excuse. How many times were Jordan, Kobe, Larry, or even Shaq were hurt and did not announce it. Heck, as far as I am concerned the Celtics are still blowing smoke about how injured KG really was. Shut up and play.
My other issue is he is a very flawed player. He cannot play with his back to the basket. Unlike Jordan or Kobe, he has no great indefensible fade away jumper. He also has no great low post move to blow by his defender like those men. He constantly loses the ball or throws up a brick in the paint against good defensive teams. The result is teams like the Celtics can get away with using Tony Allen and Ray Allen at times on the man despite him having a huge physical advantage on both men. Until he can play with his back to the basket, his teams will fail. In essence he is more like Dominique Wilkins than Michael Jordan.
Now that LeBron has signed with the Heat, I feel vindicated. A lot of people defended this man in Cleveland. I hate to say I told you so, but if he was not your guy, the faults were always glaring. I do admit I take guilty pleasure in knowing that Lebron took himself out of the running as greatest of all time by be afraid of failure to the point of signing on as the second fiddle in Miami. To get the credit and feeling took a few months, but the feeling is well worth it. My condolences go out to all the blind sheep in Cleveland that were betrayed by this false hero.
