Boston Celtics Paul Pierce Continues Vocal Off Season With Demands To Leave Newport Rhode Island

“I think it would be good for this group to get away,” said Pierce. “I’m really getting tired of Newport. Really, I want to go somewhere else.
“Newport is good, but I want to go somewhere else. It would be good to get away with this type of group, when you have Jermaine and Shaq.
“When you got new guys and these types of personalities, I think it’s good for all of us to get out, be at a dinner table — me, Shaq, Kevin [Garnett], Ray [Allen], Jermaine. I think it would be good for that relationship, building that chemistry. We get away and go somewhere, that’s something we’ll definitely do.”
Now I fully understand Paul Pierce’s view on this whole scenario. In 2008 title the Celtics were a new group and help training camp in Rome. Many players feel that is where the bonds were formed on the team that helped carry them to an NBA title. The team has not done anything like that since and maybe that is why new guys have not been as seamlessly incorporated as they were in 08. The fact that the team has new players in Shaq, Jermaine O’Neal, Von Wafer, Avery Bradley, and Luke Harangody is reason enough for the team to force bonding time. Marquis Daniels is in a new role. This is Nate Robinson’s first Celtics training camp as well. All these reasons are why the move would make perfect sense.
However, I have an issue. Instead of just calling up Doc, Danny Ainge, and Wyc, Pierce once again goes through the media. Why? Does he feel he needs to force this teams’ hand? The owners have already proven that they will not be confused with the Gaston family ever. The team has spent money like water during the quest for multiple titles. They obviously would be more than willing to spend money to send the team elsewhere. Danny has done all that has been asked out of him. He has again positioned the team to compete for the rings. Why call him out like that? What about the loyal fans in Newport that support the team? For many this is the only opportunity to see the Celtics.
Do not get me wrong I am for the move. The bonding in a far away situation would be tremendous. However, to go through the media again is wrong. Pierce may be a great player, but his demands are getting old fast. Pierce should either address the team through proper channels or shut up and play. Either way, Celtic Nation would be better off.
