RANT It!

[picappgallerysingle id="9081463"]One year ago Nate Robinson was in a terrible situation. Nate was a member of the floundering New York Knicks was his first problem. A man that desperately craved the spotlight of the NBA playoffs was not going to get there playing for the Knicks. The coach had zero use for him. Mike “people love me despite the fact I have never won anything” D’Antoni thought that Robinson was not the right fit for his system. A man that was a pure shooter and put little emphasis on defense was not a fit? Did he look at his Suns teams? The best part was that Robinson excelled at times in the offense. Nate’s reputation was taking a beating. People assumed he was too selfish a player. They said he played zero defense. However, does any Knick actually play defense?  As Nate rode the pine in New York, he became a mal content. He voiced his desire to leave numerous times. He made it clear that he wanted to go to a contender. Bottom line is he was miserable in New York.

A year later, Nate Robinson has his wish. The Boston Celtics traded for the microwave offense that is Nate Robinson at the trade deadline. He struggled to grasp the offense last season trying to learn on the fly. However, he did contribute in the playoffs. Nate would come in and bury clutch shots fast. Not since Vinnie “microwave” Johnson have I seen a man put up points so fast. Never afraid to shoot, Nate would fire his way and help in big wins over Orlando and LA in the playoffs. This was even more a feat when one takes into consideration that he had to earn playoff minutes because of his struggles picking up the offense at the end of the regular season. He had to work his butt off to earn the minutes. This was not the lazy player D’Antoni described in New York. He even shed his image as a guy that put little effort into to defense. Nate due to his size was not the greatest defender, but he was pesky at times and played with energy. His play earned him a roster spot this season as Ainge resigned the small guard.

After being stuck in the abyss for so long, Nate Robinson is finally a major piece off the bench for a contender. Nate was all smiles in Boston. He loved being part of a playoff drive. He loved meaningful basketball games. He was solid last season, but he should be even better this year with a full training camp under his belt. In one year Nate has gone from the outhouse to the penthouse. If he plays like he did in the 2010 playoffs for the rest of his Celtic career, Celtic nation will be smiling as much as he is.
