Boston Celtics Rajon Rondo Is Far Superior To Derrick Rose
[picappgallerysingle id="9142459"]I had the pleasure of reading one of the most ridiculous articles written on the internet. I like the Bulls. I think Rose is a solid offensive player, however he is not Rondo. Rose is a score first point guard. As far as passing, rebounding, defending, and running an offense; Rondo is better. This poor misguided soul needs me to help him understand the folly of his ways by using reality to slap the red tinted glasses off his face.
This past season one of the main arguments between my friends and I was, who is a better point guard Rajon Rondo or Derrick Rose? After Rose took Rondo’s starting job on the Team USA, its official in my book, Rose is better.
The fact that one would even use the Olympic competition as a gage is ridiculous. A six game sampling in a head to head argument is ludicrous. I will not even use the game is different junk to show how preposterous this is. For God’s sakes Luis Scola is averaging 29 points a game. He is a nice player, but I do not see people touting him as better than Dwight Howard. While Rose was busy reading up and working with coach K, Rondo was busy PLAYING REAL BASKETBALL IN A PLACE ROSE HAS NEVER PLAYED: THE FINALS. Of course the guy with more time in the offense is going to look better at first. The fact of the matter is this, Rondo was not ready despite the fact Coach K was trying to hand him the starting job. Many people believe Rondo would have made the team because he is something that Rose is not, a good defender. However, a prideful Rondo would not take the heat for USA’s inability to gel and said I am out because I have a title to try to win. There was definitely more to Rondo’s benching. Rose was not that much better overall to cause Rondo to sit. There is smoke and somewhere there is a fire. Rondo played no worse than Rose did during USA’s narrow win over Brazil by a basket. Rose looked awful defensively and the offense sputtered. Coach K and Rondo had an issue.
Rose has brought it to every country in the world championship games. He is making his shots and is getting others open for them to add their own points. Kevin Durant, who is the dominant scorer for the USA team, would not get any open looks if it wasn’t for Rose and his drive and dish mind set. The point guard is making defenses think he is going straight to the hoop, than gets frustrated when he dumps it off to an open cutter. This is something Rondo can do, but Rose just does it better. Rose has better court vision. Rose has a better jump shot. Rose plays better defense. I’ve been saying it for a year, Rose is better than Rondo.
Wow, you mean to tell me against weak international teams with a great supporting cast, he is playing well? News flash Durant does not need Rose. Durant is scoring because he is running the floor. It does not take a great point guard to know to give Durant the ball in transition.
To say Rondo is not a better passer than Rose is absurd. Look at the numbers alone and Rondo is averaging ten a game to Rose’s six. Never mind the fact that despite the injuries during the regular season to the Celtics, the Celtics averaged more points per game than the Bulls. Rondo did not have Pierce the whole year. No Kevin Garnett due to injury. Ray Allen was also a shell of himself before the trade deadline. Rondo had to be the man and was.
The post loses all credibility when one says Rose is a better defender than Rondo. What games are you watching? Rondo had more votes for the NBA all defensive team than any other player not named Dwight Howard. He did this at the point guard position. This is not a position lauded for defensive excellence. The man has great reach, uses his speed and has incredible instincts. You do not lead the league in steals as a poor defender. How many all defensive first teams does Rose have? Ridiculous statements that are void of fact.
This is the official stamp of my statement. Obviously Coach K thinks Rose is his guy to start the USA team. He wasn’t even playing the Boston guard in exhibition games causing Rondo to drop from the team because he wasn’t going to play. After Kevin Durant, Rose is the best player on this team. He is by far the best point guard, besting Chauncey Billups and Russell Westbrook. If Rondo would have stayed on the team and made the final cut, Rose would continue to outplay him as well.
No, he would not have. The way Coach K has run this team, after Brazil Rondo might have seen a lot of action. Rose had a very hard time defending in transition and help defense. The man can shoot and score, I give him that, but a better point guard, no way.
Never mind the fact that who is Coach K to end any debate? This is a man that wins a lot of college games, but wants zero part of the NBA challenge. Coach K also should win a lot of games because his team always has a great recruiting class at Duke. Yes, he puts the effort in and is a great coach, but with the talent he has had, he should have won more NCAA tournaments. I love the man, but let’s be honest, he is not perfect. If Rondo had a full camp and grasped the offense quick, Rose would be backing Rondo up, period. Rondo was Coach K’s first choice for a reason. However, one man’s opinion ends no debate for me.
With this said, the Bulls should move up to the third best team in the eastern conference on every ones list. Some have Boston better than Chicago, moving them to fourth, no way. The Bulls have a better point guard, Rose over Rondo. Also, a more productive power forward in Carlos Boozer over Kevin Garnett and a healthy athletic center in Joakim Noah compared to Kendrick Perkins or the extinct Shaquille O’Neal and Jermaine O’Neal.
Plus, the Bulls have one of the top five three point shooters in the NBA, Kyle Korver, to match up with Ray Allen and Ronnie Brewer is going to be a handful for Paul Pierce.
This is only the match up with the Boston Celtics, not the rest of the league. There is no doubt in my mind the Bulls are in the top three eastern conference teams, Rose outplaying Rondo is a big reason why.
This is where the man loses his mind over finally having something to grasp at in his Rose and Rondo debate. First off, Rondo is the better guard in every category except scoring statistically. His team also scores more and defends better than Chicago. Boston also wins more. The result is by definition Rondo is the better point guard.
The fact that the Celtics finish with both a higher seed and play deeper in the playoffs than the Bulls says a lot. To say that changes after one offseason of Carlos Boozer, Tom Thibodeau, and Ronnie Brewer is stretching one’s imagination. Thibodeau will need a year to get going as a new coach. Has Boozer’s teams in Utah done much damage?
Saying Boozer is better than KG is like saying a thousand dollars is a better than a million dollars. Boozer will score more points and maybe grab more meaningless rebounds when his team is up fifteen or down twenty. Boozer is not a big game player. There is a reason the team kept Millsap over him. Boozer disappears at times on the defensive end and many say that he lacks toughness. KG will grab the tough rebound; he will sacrifice offense to shut the other man down. He also motivates those around him. Many claim that KG is one of the last warriors in the game today. I have never heard anyone claim Carlos Boozer made this guy better or motivated this guy. Hence he is on his third team.
I like Noah. He is a feisty player that deserves respect. However, Perkins is a beast. Perkins is also one of the most under rated defenders in the game. Perkins can defend guys that Noah cannot. Perkins gives Howard fits. Also Shaq and Jermaine O’Neal averaged 13 points a game last year. How many points did Chicago’s backups average?
Ronnie Brewer giving Paul Pierce fits. You are joking, right? Is Pierce injured when they play? Pierce in the Finals got to any spot he wanted on a great defender like Ron Artest. He just missed. Ron Brewer is not giving Pierce any sleepless nights. The fact you even put Kyle Korver in the same sentence as Ray Allen shows the level of insanity that I am dealing with. Korver is nice. Ray Allen hits BIG SHOTS. Korver has not. You of all people should know having watched Ray Allen out duel a better shooter in Ben Gordon during one of the greatest playoff series I have ever witnessed.
It is nice to be a fan. It is nice to believe and hype up your team. However, bring facts and reality to the argument. The Bulls are a nice four or five seed depending on Atlanta. The Celtics are ranked two or three and have many people picking them to return again to the Finals because they are a great and deep team. The Celtics could finish the fifth seed and still make it to the Finals. The Celtics have gone deep into the playoffs and will probably go deep this year for many reasons. One of the bigger reasons is the play of the emerging superstar Rajon Rondo. That is why Rondo is clearly better than Rose.

You are entitled to your opinion but to act like you are more objective than your Bulls fan counterpart is hypocritical. Honestly lots of people would say that Rose is better, just like lots would say Rondo is better. You act like your opinion is the only respectable one and that is sad. You are what you act as if you despise. Look in the mirror once in a while and maybe have some humility.
Here are my opinions
- Both are excellent PG and make a great debate.
- Louis Sola is a terrible example, because he isn’t playing head to head in every game with star players. Rose and Rondo did and went against each other in practices. Whether you agree or not the coaches did like Rose better. It is pretty clear that Rondo couldn’t hit jumpers or make free throws.
- Boozer is better than KG today, not KG of 2 years ago. KG is broken down and was a shadow of himself in the playoffs this year.
- I agree that the Korver and Brewer comments way out of line.
There is more to baketball than the jump shot. Boozer better? Not a chance. Having watched every playoff game, KG did something Boozer could not do, shut his man down. Untill running into Pau Gasol the man owned every opponent. Look at the players stats he was matched up against during the playoffs. Beasily was held to nothing. Antawn Jamison was shut down. Rashard Lewis who tormented KG during the regular season was a complete non factor. The Celtic wins had KG hold Gasol in check. Watch the fourth quarter of game 2 in LA. Against a man that owned him for a game and a half, KG shut him down when he needed to. Boozer will score more, but I will take the man that is still the best defender at the power forward spot.
If you want to argue only defense, then you have a point, but I think all around game matters. Look at rebounds and points as well. Also you mentioned Beasily who is a joke, Jamison who is on a team with a ball hog who only gets the ball on an outside jumper after a kick and drive and Lewis who is just as old and on a team with 6 scoring options.
Honestly, you have to admit KG’s skills have dropped significantly. He’s not a scrub, I’m not trying to insult you or him, but honestly most people would rather have Boozer at this point in his career on a season by season basis. Forget age.
Boozer rebounds because Utah has no center that rebounds. If Perkins was not there KG would have more rebounds. The games Perkins did not play this year, KG rebounded more. The men you just trashed are considered solid NBA players that averaged close to 20 points agame. They are hardly stiffs. KG was not the KG of old, but the recent poll of GMs had KG rated as the sixth most desireable powerforward for a one year deal if all money was equal ahead of Boozer. Boozer is nice, but his points pale in comparison to what KG brings to the table. If you just look at numbers and do not understand or watch the game and see him night in and night out, you do not get it. When he was with the T wolves, I did not realize he was the this good. Even missing a step KG is always in the right position on both ends of the floor.
Rondo sucks!!!! Get over it losers! He shouldn’t even be in the NBA. He’s lucky to even be on that team. I only clicked on this article cause’ I was searching for some D.Rose news.
you deserve no response due to the fact you are a weenie.
Rob,don’t waste your time talking to idiots.Your time will be better served replying to intelligent people.
Tlking to idiots provides me with humor, thanks Mary for the advice.
You sir just took the cake for the most ridiculous comment on the internet.
Nope, it is the guy below who says if you aren’t in the NBA you can’t speak, which of course he isn’t. The last line is even more ridiculous that is is proven. HAHA
You have no rights to speak, you are not even in the NBA the real loser hear is you.Rondo is better than Rose and it is proven everywhere on the internet.
LOL, you are quite the debater.
He may be a little off with speaking his mind, but at least he is passionate.
Rondo is far better than Rose.Rondo thinks the game and does exactly what a point guard is supposed to do.Generate points, knows where everyone on his team likes the ball, watches the game to see where the better shot would be.Where as Rose is still learning and has to be taught his role.No question Rose can play, but he still makes a whole lot of mistakes like unforced turnovers, bad passes bad shots, etc. And just like Rob said, you can’t rate someone on how they do in a few games against any players, especially international players.
great points
They were your points, I would think you’d like them.
Damn right!
Rose has been horrible for Team USA.
Up until today’s game, he had averaged as many assist as turnovers (11); shot a very low percentage; shot terribly from three point range and has been constantly burned on defense by any offensive minded point guard on the opposition. So I wouldn’t pay attention to that poster.
PS: Though late to camp, Rondo had actually grasped the offense better than Rose and the other point guards. Because he was the only one call plays, running the offense and guiding players on court while he was on the team, from their first public Friendly against France.
Rose is just not a real point guard. He’s always looking for his shot first and crouching low, like’s he’s ready to cross over on any guard that’s in front of him, instead of keeping his head up to pass to his team mates. His passes seem so rudimentarily unintended.
Who ever made the decision (Rondo or Coach K) for Team USA, it’s obvious that neither Rose or Curry has been worth a damn to team USA regardless of who wins the game against Lithuania (Remember them; they were actually a great team), Team USA didn’t need Rose or Stephen Curry in real games.
As a matter of fact, Rose hasn’t played well in any actual Fiba game, while playing well in only one friendly, while Rondo was gone already against the free wheeling, porous defending Spain team.
It’s really not that big of an argument!
Rondo Kills Rose!!! And Rose has been one of the worst players on this team, along with Curry, Tyson and Granger!!
Rose forces the issue to much, has a low basketball IQ, is not a natural passer, is a terrible defender (even on team USA, always seems herky jerky in the half court set and only seems to play at one speed-too fast in the open court.
The guy scores, but that’s only because he takes 18 shots a game vs 11 for Rondo. They both shot under 25% in three point shooting, though Rose had a better percentage from midrange.
If Rondo averaged 4 more shots a game, he should average 16-18 points a game, along with his 10-12 assist (on a team that doesn’t run like ones in the West).
I actually don’ think Rondo is a bad shooter; he just doesn’t shoot enough. I actually think the Big 3 hurt Rondo in many respects, because if he played with out them, he’d take more of the offense upon himself and have a higher scoring average.
WE all know he passes, cause regardless of who the Celtics line up with injuries, Rondo gets his assist!
It’s too much to write to break down both guards games; but Rondo is just better and Rose is not a real point guard anyway, who can’t play defense!!!
His shot is solid and he makes more now, but it is too inconsitant, but he is still nasty despite that.
rob nelson is the man. He gets over 800 views a post and is featured on Fox Sports and ESPN. His knowledge is great in the NBA and I know that even if Rondo was on the Bulls, The Bulls would win more games because Rondo is better
Randy, you can think what you like, but I have forgotten more about the NBA then you will ever know. To even attack a person that you do not know that gets more views on his opinion in a day then you will ever recieve shows how simple minded you are. Remember this I am paid well for my opinion, are you?
