Boston Celtics Carlos Arroyo Should Be Welcomed Back
When a team has a super star in the making like Rajon Rondo, it is hard to imagine the team having an issue at point guard. However, the Celtics have a few problems that need to be addressed at the point spot. Rondo is a horse and can play a ton of minutes and be a horse, but Boston should try to avoid burning out their young star. Rondo is too important to this team to be burnt out come playoff time. The Cletics need solid depth behind Rondo to give him the rest that he needs.
A great backup that can effectively log twenty minutes is a must. Delonte West and his agent have already hinted that a return to Boston is very probable. The Celtics love what West can bring to the table with his great defense and solid offensive game. The problem is West is not one hundred percent reliable. West missed most of last season with injuries and his mental state is always in question. If West and his many issues are brought back like many assume, then Boston needs a third option at the point guard slot.
The Celtics do have Avery Bradley on the roster. Bradley is very athletic and is blessed with a lot of talent. Bradley is already a very good NBA defender. The problem is he also very young and inexperienced. This lack of experience and youth led to Bradley struggling at running the offense. If he cannot run the offense then Bradley must not be put on the floor. The Celtics are a veteran team with title aspirations. This means youth is not served in this situation.
One of the answers to this issue the Celtics have is to bring back Carlos Arroyo to be the team’s third option off the bench. Arroyo was not impressive in his short time in Boston, but he was not terrible. He showed flashes of catching on to running the offense despite not getting to Boston until very late in the year. Carlos is a solid point guard. He is not flashy, but he can get the job done off the bench. His defense is solid and he is a solid floor general. The man would probably flourish in Boston running the second unit should West be injury prone again.
Right now Arroyo is showing how skilled he is by leading Puerto Rico to the Quarter Finals of the Olympic qualifier. His 26 points helped carry the team past Canada. I know the Olympic competition is not the best, but the man is performing at a level that would look good in a Celtic uniform off the bench. The best part is he could be had for a very reasonable price for the cap challenged Celtics.
The bottom-line is the Celtics probably have their backup in Delonte West They will need a veteran third option. Carlos Arroyo is the perfect fit. I hope Ainge feels the same way I do. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!
