Top Six Fantasy NBA Point Guards

(Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE)

Sometimes comparing two sports is like comparing apples and oranges.  Basketball and football are no exception.  One comparison does translate fairly well though: point guards are a lot like quarterbacks.  They both distribute the rock, have a huge impact on the team’s ability to score and you rarely see teams achieve a high level of success without a good one.

It’s a little more difficult to compare the positions in terms of fantasy, but there is still no denying that the point guard position is vital to success.  Here are my top six floor generals for the 2011-2012 fantasy NBA season.

Where does Deron Williams rank? You can’t say that Wall or some of the others on your list are better fantasy (or even real life) point guards than he is. I demand a recount!

I’ve got him going back and forth with Rose between the No. 6 and No. 7 spots. They offer similar value – Williams more dimes, Rose more points – but I still want to see how he adjusts to the new team over a full season. I definitely wouldn’t try to argue that all of those guys are better real life point guards than Deron Williams, but I think you could offer a strong argument that the first five will outproduce Williams in fantasy leagues. I’m excited to find out.
