The problem for the Boston Celtics the last few seasons has
been the simple fact that Danny Ainge has not given the team a quality bench.
Misfits like Glen Davis, Stephan Marbury, Mikki Moore, Patrick O’Bryant, and
Nate Robinson provided both little production and cost the starters valuable
rest. The Celtics needed to find an answer to their bench woes this off season.
Celtics president Danny Ainge needed to find a guy that could be the sixth man
and provide the team with a boost of f the bench. When Glen Davis was dealt to
Orlando for Brandon Bass, Ainge got his man.
Brandon Bass was born to both be a Celtic and play for Doc Rivers. Bass is a blue collar player that punches in
for work and gives all that he has. Boston makes gods of people of this ilk. Bass
does not take plays off or stops hustling on the floor. During yesterday’s game
Bass displayed these qualities for Celtics Nation to see. Bass hustled in the
paint and got dirty grabbing 11 rebounds including some hard fought offensive
rebounds. Bass also ran the floor the entire game and the result was Rajon
Rondo rewarded him time and time again including a pretty feed that led to a
fast break dunk. (Did Glen Davis ever have a fast break dunk due to hustle?)
The Celtics were struggling for another scoring option other than Rondo early on. Paul pierce did not play and it
was Bass that stepped up and hit shot after shot in a variety of ways. He hit
the open mid range jumper. He dunked off offensive rebounds. He showed some
post moves for great baskets. It was no surprise that at the end of the game
Bass recorded a double double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
It has been a long time since Boston had a
true threat off the bench. Brandon Bass came in and showed that he is the
missing piece. If Bass can continue this kind of play all season, a sixth man
award is not out of the realm of possibility. However, one game does not make a
season, but I got a feeling Bass is going to be a big name in Boston due to his
play. Remember Go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!!!!
