Boston Celtics Jermaine O’Neal Has Another Solid Game
The Celtics got a great game from JO against the Thunder. JO was a solid defensive presence blocking a shot and recording a couple steals. He also made life difficult for Thunder scorers Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook by making the lane to the hoop vanish with his tall body and long arms. He also rebounded well with eleven rebounds. JO also chipped in with 12 points. It is too bad the Celtics lost the game and JO let loose a little frustration because many are overlooking his strong play.
After the Thunder game, Celtics starting center Jermaine O’Neal went off on his critics. He made it clear that he felt his play has been better than his critics have suggested. JO made it a point to make sure that everyone knew that his role is different than it was during his all star seasons. He also made it clear that he is getting better in this system and becoming a better player. JO is one hundred percent right.
The simple fact is JO should not be judged by his previous greatness. JO is not a super star player anymore that can run and jump like a thoroughbred. The days of him averaging 20 plus points a game were well over. His stint in Miami in 2010 should have cleared any delusions of that up.
The Celtics were not delusional. When the Celtics signed JO, it was under the assumption that he could step in and be a solid shot blocking defense first center that gave the team needed size to compete with teams like the Lakers and Orlando. The team had Kendrick Perkins already on the roster and grabbed Shaq as well. This meant JO was a bench guy.
JO does deserve credit. He has tried to fit into the system. JO thinks defense first and looks for his offense only when he is open and in great position. Not a lot of guys that were superstars can make that move due to ego.
JO has done a fantastic job at the defensive end. He rotates well and is excellent at bothering and blocking shots. His rotations have been so flawless that hsi statement about being a leader in taking charges at the center spot might very well ring true. JO with the exception of a few blown plays also protects the defensive glass as well. The Celtics best defensive lineup has JO at center and no one can argue that. This means JO was right to blast his critics. Remember Go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!
