Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett Is Starting To Get His Fight Back
If one just looked at Kevin Garnett’s stat line from Monday’s game against Orlando, they would not have seen what Celtics fans that watched the game saw to give them hope for the rest of these season. I would not blame them either for not thinking much of his play based on those just above average numbers of 14 points,10 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 blocks in 29 minutes. These numbers are hardly numbers that jump out from KG as he has been dominant for so long that these numbers are certainly not career highs. However, the way those numbers wear earned are why Boston should be considered dangerous again. Kevin Garnett for the first time this season showed the trademark fight that has made him a legend.
The beginning of the year was rough for KG. He looked old, but not because of lack of leaping ability or not having enough gas in his tank to finish the game. The reason he looked old was because he never really seemed like he had his trade mark fight. KG did not fight for position on either end of the floor. He did not fight for every loose ball or rebound. The result was the younger and more athletic players made Garnett look silly at both ends of the floor.
Last night KG fought for everything. He would fight with Dwight Howard all night for positioning for rebounds. He would fight for the ball on the glass and earned all ten rebounds. He would fight for the positioning on defense. That is how he stayed with both Howard and Anderson. He also had active hands and got five steals for his efforts. He would fight to keep Howard or Ryan Anderson from getting an easy look. Anderson looked troubled by KG’s hand in his face on his long range shot. Howard’s shot was sent back by a thunderous block by KG due to great positioning that was fought for.
KG fought just as hard on the offensive end. He battled for offensive rebounds. He battled to get inside. He battled to get to his spot from the outside. He fought to give the perfect picks and screens. KG may have had nights that he scored more, but he showed a lot of needed heart and hustle on the offensive end to help compliment Paul Pierce.
The Magic game was a coming out party for Paul Pierce, but it was also one for KG. KG’s coming out may have been more important. It is his fight that the team has adopted and has used to battle to many a victory. If the team can rally around a renaissance of KG’s effort, then Boston will be very dangerous the rest of the way. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!!!!!
