Minor League Position Players Who Could Impact the 2012 Boston Red Sox
The 2012 Red Sox have a number of question marks. With Carl Crawford likely starting the season on the DL, the team may need to rely on both Cody Ross and Ryan Sweeney as everyday outfielders early in the year. At shortstop, trades have sent Marco Scutaro and Jed Lowrie to new homes leaving Mike Aviles and Nick Punto as the only options at the position. Kevin Youkilis is still one the best hitters in the game, but he has struggled to stay on the field the past two years and the move to third base has not helped the aging slugger stay on the field.
Making matters worse, Boston has little elite talent in the upper levels of their farm system. While the team’s best prospects are still a few years away, Boston does have a few position players who could impact the 2012 season.
