Seeing as it will cost Michael Bowden, whose ceiling is a middle reliever and the Cubs are going to pay his salary I don’t see what’s not to like here. Best case, Red Sox get a 3 win player to fill in for Ellsbury and give them depth beyond Ross and Sweeney. Worst case, he is lousy, just like McDonald, Repko, and every other option currently available. No risk, potentially significant reward.
