NL MVP Ryan Braun Faces 50-Game Ban For Positive Test for PEDs
Jerry Lai - US PRESSWIRE

Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is facing a likely 50-game suspension for a positive test on a performance-enhancing drug.

The failed test has not yet been officially announced by Major League Baseball because Braun is disputing the result through arbitration.

A spokesman for Braun issued a statement Saturday: “There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan’s complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated.”

The failed test was discovered last month when Braun submitted had to submit a urine sample for testing during the playoffs. He was notified of his failed result late in October, about a month before he won the MVP.

Braun has never been linked to performance-enhancing drugs before. In fact, he has been identified as a positive role model in avoiding steroids or other forms of illegal drugs.

But now, it appears that his career will resemble that of Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, and other notorious drug users.

Last season, Braun batted .332 with 33 home runs, 111 RBIs, 33 stolen bases, and a league-leading .597 slugging percentage. He helped lead the Brewers to their first division title since the 1982 season.
