Tim Lincecum Reaches Verbal Agreement with San Francisco Giants
Cary Edmondson-US PRESSWIRE

Tim Linceum has reached a verbal agreement with the San Francisco Giants on a deal that will pay him $40.5 million over two years.

Lincecum will be paid $18 million this season and $22 million next year and will receive a $500,000 signing bonus. The Giants previously offered him $17 million, the highest in arbitration history, after Lincecum wanted $21.5 million in salary arbitration.

This is a great deal for the 27-year-old All-Star whose previous two-year contract was worth $23.2 million. Not only does this deal buy out his arbitration but he will be eligible for free agency after the 2013 season. It is also good news for San Francisco, who will have Matt Cain and Lincecum signed for the next two years as they make another run at the World Series.

Lincecum was rumored to have wanted out of San Francisco after receiving limited run support throughout the 2011 season. With a healthy Buster Posey coming back plus the already established hitters, this contract was a no-brainer for him.

Lincecum is 69-41 over his career with a 2.98 ERA, 1,127 strikeouts and 379 walks with eight complete games and five shutouts in 156 games pitched. He is the MLB record-holder for most strikeouts thrown in the first four seasons of a career. Lincecum is also the Giants franchise leader for wins in a single post-season with four and the franchise record-holder for most games pitched with 10 or more strikeouts. He is also the third player in franchise history to have at least 200 strikeouts in four straight seasons.

He has won the Golden Spikes Award (2006), NL Cy Young Award (2008, 2009), Babe Ruth Award (2010), NL strikeout leader (2008, 2009, 2010), MLB strikeout leader (2010), All-Star (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), and was the Game 5 clincher when the Giants won the World Series in 2010.
