Sources: Washington Nationals Sign Edwin Jackson
According to ESPN, starting pitcher Edwin Jackson has agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals.
Jackson was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the St. Louis Cardinals mid-season last year. In 13 games with the eventual World Champions, Jackson was 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA, 51 strikeouts and 23 walks. He was a big part in getting the Cardinals over the hump and into the playoffs.
In the postseason, Jackson was 1-0 in four games with a 5.60 ERA, 17 strikeouts and 12 walks while surrendering five home runs.
Jackson instantly improves an already talented Washington pitching rotation with ace Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann.
Jackson was one of the last top free agent pitchers left this offseason which means any team still looking for a quality starter will most likely have to acquire Roy Oswalt.
