Miami Marlins president David Samson has earned a reputation during his time at the helm of being abrasive, unrelenting, and somewhat of a bully.

Samson’s comments in regards to a new stadium deal arranged over the past few years for the Miami Marlins will not win him any humanitarian or “Friend of the Community” awards any time soon.

In a meeting with local business leaders in Miami yesterday, Samson decided it was time to pull no more punches in regards to his feelings about the city, it’s citizens, and most shockingly, the team’s newest high-profile and high-priced free-agent acquisition, Jose Reyes.

To begin with, he panned the average Miami citizen, and gave people in the conference room a back-handed compliment all at the same time:

I don’t have to hold back now that the stadium is built. We’re not the smartest people in Miami. If you’re in this room, you’re instantly in the top 1%.

Next, he noted that a move to Las Vegas would have been considered if the Miami stadium deal had fallen through, because, after all, it’s all about the moolah:

We don’t care if nobody comes.  We’ll play in front of nobody, and we’ll have all the money.

And, last but not least, he made sure to eviscerate his new shortstop for good measure, claiming Jose Reyes told him:

I really want to play in Miami as long as you pay me $1 more than anyone else… I really want to make the most money I can.

Well, Mr. Samson, if you’re all about the money, why shouldn’t your players be?

Whatever fan support the Marlins did have were just given another reason to stay away from the ballpark in droves.

The psychedelic fish in right field just shed a tear.
