Report : Indians To Sign OF Johnny Damon To One-Year Deal
Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

According to MLB.com, the Cleveland Indians and two-time All-Star veteran outfielder Johnny Damon have agreed to a one-year deal.

Damon, 38, who would bat .261, hit 16 home runs and 73 RBI’s in 150 games with the Tampa Bay Rays, would most likely provide bench depth and platoon with outfielder Shelly Duncan.

Damon would also steal 19 bases for the Rays.

The 17-year MLB veteran Damon, who has played for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays, has a career batting average of .286, 2,723 hits, 1,120 RBI’s, scored 1,643 runs and stolen 404 bases.

After an attempted trade for Los Angeles Angels outfield Bobby Abreu fell through, Cleveland, in need of veteran leadership and another bat have appeared to have found one in Damon.

A World Series champion with the Boston in 2004 and New York in 2009, Damon will be re-united with former Red Sox teammate Derek Lowe.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports would report via Twitter that Damon’s contract with Cleveland will have a full no-trade clause and a out clause in his contract that would allow Damon to leave when starting centerfielder Grady Sizemore returns.

Sizemore is not eligible to return form the 60-day disabled list until June 3.
