Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Juan Pierre legged out a two-out infield single in the bottom of the 11th inning against the St. Louis Cardinals, scoring Jimmy Rollins to give the Phillies a dramatic 8-7 victory.

After the game, Pierre told reporters that he was inspired by Olympics track star, Usain Bolt, who is easily the fastest man on the planet.

Courtesy of beat writer Ryan Lawrence, here are Pierre’s quotes:

“”I was a little excited. I got inspired watching Usain Bolt last night. Had a chance to go through the finish line there at first base and just got excited there playing a kid’s game. No matter where you are in the standings, to win a big league game is always special and I never want to take that for granted. My errant throw today led to a big inning, and to be able to, not make up for it, but to be in a position to help the team win is pretty cool.”

Pierre has come up big multiple times for the Phillies this season, as the 34-year old is batting .307 despite barely making the Opening Day roster.

The victory on Sunday completed an impressive late-inning comeback, as the Phillies trailed 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning before they mounted their rally. Chase Utley and Ryan Howard walked to begin the inning, and Howard was replaced by pinch-runner Nate Schierholtz. Two batters later, catcher Erik Kratz belted a mammoth three-run home run to left field, tying the game for the Phillies.
