Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

The Brooklyn Nets completed a mega deal Monday as the team was able to acquire guard Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks for Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Williams, DeShawn Stevenson and 2013 first round pick that was acquired from the Houston Rockets. After the trade, the consensus feeling was that any hope in acquiring center Dwight Howard seemed to be lost. Needless to say, it is not.

The Nets still have one more trick up its sleeve for the next few days or even few hours. The Nets are set to offer the Orlando Magic Kris Humphries, Brook Lopez, Marshon Brooks and the Nets’ first round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017. Basically, the Nets are willing to give up most of their future to get Howard.

This is their last chance to get Howard. The team is still waiting on Deron Williams to officially decide on where he wants to play next year but if this trade goes through, Williams will definitely become a Net.

There are has been rumors that the Nets do not actually want Howard saying that the team has tried to trade for him multiple times and that any desire of acquiring Howard is now lost. Howard asked the Magic to trade him to the Nets in December, but the Magic budged on the offers.

Aside from the Nets, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Hawks are also candidates to land Howard. The Lakers are prepared to offer Andrew Bynum while the Hawks would give up Al Horford and Jeff Teague. It will be interesting to see where Howard will go in the coming days.
