It’s easy to look at the past when things have gone your way. When you give up two shorthanded goals in one period, you might not want to look back on that. But it is what it is. Things have not exactly gone the way that the Buffalo Sabres (15-12-2) would have hoped. The Sabres are an embarrassing 2-5-2 in their last nine home games.

Problem solving is never easy. But occasionally, sometimes the problem IS the solution. In the case of the Buffalo Sabres, maybe both the problem and the solution is the healthy of their players. In fact, most sports teams that have successful seasons also remain healthy. Rarely do you see situations where teams lose multiple contributors and continue to enjoy success. It happens, but not nearly as frequently as say, the 2010 Green Bay Packers would have you think.

The Sabres aren’t going to be back at full strength at the snap of your fingers. Still, the tide is beginning to turn. Defenseman Mike Weber has been cleared to return for the Sabres match-up against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. It is also possible that forwards Paul Gaustad and Patrick Kaleta could return against the Senators. Both players participated in practice on Monday.

That’s not exactly the entire injury list, but it’s a start. In fact, if the Sabres can just manage to shrink their injury list instead of growing it, that would be a victory in itself. The list of walking wounded is still very significant:

  • Brad Boyes (Out Indefinitely – Lower Body Injury)
  • Nathan Gerbe (Out Indefinitely – Head Injury)
  • Tyler Myers (Out Indefinitely – Wrist Injury)
  • Jochen Hecht (Day-to-Day – Lower Body Injury)

Tyler Myers has been skating and recently began puckhandling drills. The timeframe for his return has been set at one-to-three weeks.

Depending on which injured players return on Tuesday, the Sabres may need to make a roster move. Rookie Brayden McNabb could be sent back to Rochester.
