Panthers look for first offensive touchdown of preseason against Titans
[picappgallerysingle id="9581015"]
For most NFL teams, the third game of the preseason is when the first team sees the most action as they tend to play at least three quarters. For the Carolina Panthers, their third preseason game has more meaning for another reason—their first offensive touchdown of the 2010 preseason.
In two preseason games, the Panthers have scored just one touchdown—a 31-yard fumble return by cornerback C.J. Wilson against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago. Carolina has been unlucky by facing two of the top defenses in the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, but they’ll have a chance to redeem themselves against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night.
While there’s no reason to hit the panic button tonight considering it’s only preseason, it’s important for the Panthers’ offense to come through against the Titans. They are going through a transition process now that Jake Delhomme—now a member of the Browns—and Julius Peppers—who left Carolina for the Chicago Bears—are no longer with the team, meaning it could take some time to adjust in 2010.
Carolina may have high expectations for Jimmy Clausen in the future, but for now, Matt Moore will be the one leading the offense for at least this season. He helped the Panthers finish 4-1 over the final five games of 2009 and now, Moore needs to help the offense get out of their funk before the regular season starts.
