Report: Jeremy Shockey would prefer to play for Panthers; will visit team on Sunday
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former New Orleans Saints and New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey is scheduled to visit with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Shockey was released last week after spending the last three seasons with the Saints.
While Shockey already visited with the Miami Dolphins, it should be noted that Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reported on Saturday that the two-time Super Bowl champion would prefer to play with the Panthers–mainly because of offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. The two worked together at the University of Miami back when Shockey was a member of the Hurricanes.
When healthy, Shockey has proven to be an effective pass-catching tight end and would be a nice addition to a passing game that ranked last in the NFL in 2010 by averaging just 143.1 yards per game. Shockey spent the first six seasons of his career with the New York Giants before signing with the Saints in 2008. Last season, Shockey caught 41 passes for 408 yards with three touchdowns in the 13 games he played in.
