Reason # 5 to be Optimistic
Replacing Director of Player Personnel. OK, this may be re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but it is good to see the Bears are firing a guy in Bobby DePaul that frankly has made some questionable moves the last few years. While the Bears credit him with the Jay Cutler trade, he has brought in some other duds and made other weak personnel decisions. Here are two that I can think of…
1. Losing Bernard Berrian and not replacing him
2. Signing Frank Omiyale
These two moves were frankly horrible. While Berrian was overpaid by most people’s standards, the Bears have been way under the cap the last several years and did not really have a plan “b” in place. Omiyale is brutal. So with no high draft picks this year and what appears to be several needs, it was time to give someone else a shot.

Bobby DePaul made some good moves, too.
DePaul brought in Thomas Jones, John Tait, Fred Miller and Reuben Brown. Those were the guys that were pillars of the Super Bowl run.
Offing the Pro Personnel guy right before the free agency period isn’t a smart move for anyone. Unless, of course, Bill Parcells is waiting in the wings for you.
